Ms. Meghan Parquette

Principal

B.A., Bates College; M.Ed., Lesley University
Meghan Parquette joined Brooke in 2006 as an Associate Teacher at Brooke Roslindale. Since then, Ms. Parquette has taught kindergarten, first grade, fifth grade and middle school math. Ms. Parquette has been the principal at Brooke Roslindale since 2011. Before coming to Brooke, Ms. Parquette taught at a school on the north shore of Massachusetts while attending graduate school.

Ms. Jon’s Cardoso

Assistant Principal

B.S., Lesley University; M.Ed., Lesley University
Ms. Cardoso is returning for her twelfth year at Brooke. She was previously a second grade teacher, a third grade teacher, and a fifth grade teacher and reading specialist. Prior to working at Brooke, she worked for three years as a second grade teacher at Shakespeare Elementary School in New York City. Ms. Cardoso was a 2001 Teach for America corps member.

Ms. Sarah Hammond

Assistant Principal

B.A., Connecticut College; M.Ed., Dominican University
Ms. Hammond joined the Brooke Mattapan team in 2012 as a kindergarten teacher. After teaching kindergarten for two years at Brooke Mattapan, she transitioned to the Brooke Roslindale team as an Assistant Principal Fellow and second grade reading and math teacher. Currently, Ms. Hammond is the Kindergarten-third grade Assistant Principal at Brooke Roslindale. Prior to Brooke, she taught pre-kindergarten through Teach for America in Chicago.

Ms. Lindsey Hugo

Assistant Principal

B.A., College of the Holy Cross; M.Ed., Providence College
Ms. Hugo spent two years teaching high school English in Fall River, MA prior to coming to Brooke. While teaching, she earned her Master’s degree in Special Education. Ms. Hugo taught as an eighth grade English Language Arts and Social Studies teacher but this year she will be returning to Brooke Roslindale as an Assistant Principal.

Mr. Jorge Martinez

Dean of Students

B.A., University of Massachusetts at Amherst
Mr. Martinez returns to Brooke Roslindale for his eleventh year. After serving as just the middle school Dean of Students for several years, he began serving as the Dean of Students for all students, K-8, in 2008. Prior to joining Brooke, Mr. Martinez worked at Cathedral High School and Boston Renaissance Charter School.

Ms. Elena Thurman

Director of Operations

Elena Thurman joined Brooke in 2014 as an Operations Fellow at Brooke Mattapan. Ms. Thurman is currently serving as the Director of Operations at Brooke Roslindale. Before coming to Brooke, Ms. Thurman was a 6th grade teacher at a Boston Public School.  

Ms. Kimberly Leonhardt

School Psychologist

B.A. Susquehenna University; Ed.S. Rider University
Ms. Kimberly Leonhardt joined Brooke in 2018 as the School Psychologist at Brooke Roslindale. Before coming to Brooke, Ms. Leonhardt served as a School Psychologist and Case Manager in New Jersey.

Ms. Judith Mikel

Jou Jou has been a nurse for almost ten years acquiring her associate's degree from Quincy College. Prior to joining the Brooke Team, Jou Jou worked at Codman Square Health Center for 5 years as a staff nurse in the Family Medicine Department.  Jou Jou loves the Brooke Scholars and is dedicated to giving the children the best care possible!

Ms. Melanie Brawley

Kindergarten Teacher

B.A., College of the Holy Cross; M.Ed., Lesley University
Prior to Brooke, Ms. Brawley worked in educational publishing at Cengage Learning. Ms. Brawley is returning to Brooke Roslindale for her fifth year as a Kindergarten teacher. After having recently received her Masters in Early Childhood Education at Lesley University, she is thrilled to be back in the classroom at Brooke.

Ms. Emily Christman

Emily Christman joined Brooke in 2010 as a kindergarten teacher at Brooke Roslindale. Ms. Christman founded Brooke's student newspaper, The Senator. Before coming to Brooke, Ms. Christman taught pre-kindergarten as a Teach for America corps member in Los Angeles.

Ms. Lindsay Giammarino

Kindergarten Teacher

B.S., Johnson & Wales University; M. Ed., Roger Williams University
Ms. Giammarino previously taught third through fifth grade science at Brooke Roslindale for two years. She is returned to Brooke in 2015 to teach fourth grade. Prior to teaching at Brooke, Ms. Giammarino taught in Boston Public Schools, teaching fourth grade and science for six years. This year she will teach Kindergarten.

Ms. Katie Ouellette

Kindergarten Teacher

Kathleen Ouellette, formerly Miss Duck, came to Brooke in 2006 as a founding elementary school teacher. She taught first grade from 2006-2008. After that she looped with her class and taught second grade from 2009-2011. Mrs. Ouellette has been teaching kindergarten since 2011. Before coming to Brooke, Mrs. Ouellette taught first grade at the Mystic Valley Charter School in Malden. She also served as the K-3 professional development coordinator. She decided that she missed the classroom and left her administration role to come to teach at Brooke.

Ms. Stephanie Anjos

First Grade Teacher

B.A., University of Massachusetts, Amherst
Ms. Anjos graduated from UMass Amherst with a degree in Psychology, and minors in Education and Spanish. She completed her pre-practicum in a Kindergarten classroom and after, spent one year working with varying ages in early childhood programs in the Central Mass region. Ms. Anjos completed a year in the teaching fellowship program at Neighborhood House Charter School in Dorchester. As the first grade special education teaching fellow, she worked with a team to create and implement daily intervention for students struggling with academics and/or executive functioning skills. Additionally, she had the opportunity to assess students that needed an IEP, and assist in developing and carrying out their academic goals. Last year, she was a First Grade Associate Teacher and she is thrilled to be back at Brooke Roslindale to grow even more, through her role as a Second Grade Associate Teacher!

Ms. Candace Bass

First Grade Teacher

Ms. Bass is a 2010 graduate from UMB with a degree in English. She has previously taught at Edith C. Baker elementary in Brookline as a 3rd grade teacher. Ms. Bass has also worked as a special education coordinator at Brookline High School. Ms. Bass returns to Brooke Roslindale as a first grade teacher after completing her Associate Teacher Fellowship.

Ms. Alice Rajlai

First Grade Teacher

M.A., University of Scranton; B.A., University of Scranton
Ms. Rajlai earned a Bachelors Degree in Counseling and Human Services at the University of Scranton. She continued her journey at the University and received a Master's Degree in Early and Primary Education for grades Pre-K through 4th. She was also involved in a Hip Hop Dance Team and loves choreography. Prior to Brooke Charter School, Alice worked as a second grade teacher at the Neighborhood Charter School of Harlem in New York City and became the Team leader. She is very passionate about teaching and loves to create a fun and exciting classroom environment for her scholars. She believes that educators have the ability to make a positive change in this world.

Ms. Nohely Vargas

First Grade Teacher

B.S., Pine Manor College
Ms. Vargas graduated from Pine Manor College with a degree in Biology. She joined the Brooke Roslindale team in 2018. Prior to Brooke, she began her teaching career at a turnaround school in Dorchester. She continues to be an active member of her community, Roxbury, as a co-organizer of an annual conference for young girls of color. Ms. Vargas is thrilled to be a part the Brooke Roslindale team as a first grade teacher.

Ms. Hannah Cashen

Hannah Cashen joined Brooke in 2019 as a second grade teacher at Brooke Roslindale. Before coming to Brooke, she taught elementary school for three years in Brooklyn, NY (1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades).

Ms. Emily Dixon

Emily Dixon joined Brooke in 2012 as a Kindergarten Associate Teacher at Brooke Roslindale. Since then, Mrs. Dixon has taught two years in first grade. She is currently serving as a second grade teacher and a mentor teacher. Before coming to Brooke, Mrs. Dixon worked as a consultant for the Harvard Achievement Support Initiative and spent two years as a corps member for City Year Boston.

Mr. Justin Gilbert

Second Grade Teacher

B.S. in Elementary Education at Eastern University
Mr. Gilbert joined the Brooke Roslindale staff in 2013. Previously, Mr. Gilbert taught first grade reading and served as a special education teacher for one year in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Mr. Gilbert transitioned into the role of a first grade classroom teacher serving students living in Northeast Philadelphia. This year, he will teach second grade at Brooke Roslindale campus.

Mr. Colin Scott

Second Grade Teacher

Mr. Scott was a founding teacher in the elementary school. He joined the Brooke staff in 2006 as the first grade Associate Teacher, and he is now serving as a second grade teacher for the seventh year. Mr. Scott joined the Brooke community after working in a variety of schools in the Boston area.

Ms. Melissa Boas

Third-Fifth Grade Science Teacher

Melissa Boas joined Brooke in 2013 as the 3rd-5th Grade Science Teacher at Brooke Roslindale. Before coming to Brooke, Ms. Boas was a summer school Biology teacher, a college teaching assistant, and a tutor.

Ms. Janeen Crawford

Third Grade Teacher

B.A., University of Massachusetts, Amherst; M.S. Ed, Long Island University Brooklyn
Since 2011, Ms. Crawford has taught special education students as an Instructional Assistant in Connecticut, Maryland, and Delaware. She also served as a reading, writing, and math tutor for over six  years. Her student teaching experience was gained at P.S.10 in Brooklyn, New York in grades 2 and 4. Ms. Crawford is very excited to come aboard as a Second Grade Associate Teacher at Brooke Roslindale.

Ms. Telia Kapteyn

Prior to joining the Brooke community, Ms. Kapteyn was a Teach For America corps member and taught Kindergarten in New York City.  In addition, Ms. Kapteyn served as an instructional coach and curriculum coordinator. Ms. Kapteyn received her Ed.M. at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and her M.A.T. in Education from Hunter College, and is thrilled to be a part of the second grade team!

Before joining Brooke, Mr. Cortum taught 5th and 6th grade math at a charter school in New York City. Before teaching in New York City, he taught ESL as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant in Varna, Bulgaria. Mr. Cortum is thrilled to live in Boston and be teaching at Brooke.

Mr. Ed Donahue

Mr. Donahue previously taught in the Cambridge Public Schools After-School programs. A graduate of Emmanuel College, he is currently studying for a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education at UMass Boston. Mr. Donahue joined the Brooke team as a third grade Associate Teacher. He returns this year as a fourth grade lead teacher.

Ms. Sydney Graetz

Sydney Graetz joined the Brooke Roslindale team in 2017 as an 8th Grade ELA and Social Studies teacher. Since then, Sydney has enjoyed working on the Fourth Grade team at Brooke Roslindale. Before coming to Brooke, Sydney taught elementary school and middle school ELA at Success Academies in New York City.

Ms. Tahirah Gibson

Fifth Grade Teacher

Ms. Gibson graduated from University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth in 2015 with a Bachelors of Science in Finance.  She joined Brooke Roslindale as a fifth grade associate teacher in November 2016.  Ms. Gibson starting doing camp counseling when she lived in Hawaii and while in college was a tutor mentor for high school students in the Upward Bound program.  Prior to coming to Brooke, Ms. Gibson was a specimen processor for Quest Diagnostics.

Ms. Desiree Harvey

Desiree Harvey joined Brooke Roslindale in 2016 as an Associate Teacher. Since coming to Brooke she has taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade. In 2018 she graduated with her Masters in Education from Boston College. she is currently a fifth grade teacher at Brooke Roslindale.

Ms. Faimara Jean-Baptiste

Ms. Jean-Baptiste graduated from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. During her undergraduate studies, she served as tutor/mentor with the America Reads*America Counts program. After graduation, she served as an AmericaCorps VISTA at Boston Medical Center coordinating and managing trauma-informed practices exploring the effectiveness of intervention in early elementary classrooms in Roxbury and Dorchester. Prior to joining Brooke, she taught as a Special Education Teacher. She is excited to continue developing as an educator with Brooke as an Associate Teacher!

Mr. Ramon Alicea

Jill Bernstein joined Brooke in 2015 as a middle school math and science Associate Teacher at Brooke Roslindale. Since then, Ms. Bernstein taught 8th grade for one year. She currently teaches sixth grade math and science.

Mr. Kevin Broderick

Mr. Broderick graduated from Stonehill College in 2012 with a degree in History and Secondary Education. He joined the Brooke team in January 2015 as an Associate Teacher. This year, Mr. Broderick will teach English Language Arts and Social Studies to sixth grade scholars at Brooke Roslindale. Previously, he worked as a special education paraprofessional in Brookline, MA and as a teacher in an alternative education program in Westwood, MA.

Audrey Koble joined Brooke in 2019, as a Sixth Grade English Language Arts and Social Studies Teacher at Brooke Roslindale. Before coming to Brooke, Ms. Koble was a high school English teacher in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Ms. Ashaunte Martinez

Ms. Martinez graduated from UMASS Amherst with a degree in psychology, and a minor in education. Ms. Martinez has worked in a variety of camp settings, from sports camps to math camps, and is excited to a part of the Brooke community.

Jessie Ricker joined Brooke in 2011 as a sixth grade science and math teacher at Brooke Roslindale. Before coming to Brooke, Ms. Ricker worked at Citizen Schools and Excel Academy.

Mr. Kyle Arkeilpane

Seventh Grade English Language Arts and Social Studies Teacher

Mr. Arkeilpane has been an educator for the past eight years, working in three separate countries, most recently in Quito, Ecuador at Colegio Menor San Francisco de Quito as well as at Myers Park High School in Charlotte, North Carolina. With a degree in Secondary Education from the University of Cincinnati, Mr. Arkeilpane joined the Brooke team as a 7th Grade ELA/Social Studies teacher in the fall of 2019.

Ms. Kate Borne

Ms. Borne joined the Brooke staff as an Associate Teacher in 2007 and taught fifth and sixth grade English Language Arts until 2010. Ms. Borne then taught eighth grade writing at Boston Prep Charter Public School in Hyde Park. Ms. Borne is returning this year for her sixth year as a seventh grade English Language Arts teacher.

Ms. Tara Davidson

Seventh Grade Math Teacher

Ms. Davidson is joining the Brooke Roslindale after teaching 5th and 6th grade math at Match Middle School and Roxbury Prep. Last year, she was the Dean of Curriculum and Instruction at Roxbury Prep. She graduated from Colby College in 2010 as a mathematics major. She will be teaching 7th grade math this year.

Mr. Paul Friedmann

Seventh Grade Math and Science Teacher

Mr. Friedmann joined Brooke Roslindale in 2007, having worked for the three years as a Math teacher at Boston Collegiate Charter School. Prior to working at Boston Collegiate, Mr. Friedmann worked as a teaching fellow with Citizen Schools and as a research director with the development office at the University of Chicago. He will be teaching seventh grade Math and Science this year.

Ms. Leah Tribbett

Leah Tribbett joined Brooke in 2016 as an Associate Teacher on Roslindale's sixth grade team. Since then, Ms. Tribbett has taught ELA and Social Studies on Roslindale's seventh grade team. Before coming to Brooke, Ms. Tribbett taught in West Philly and worked with Generation Teach, an educational nonprofit organization based in Denver.

Ms. Adrienne Watkins

Seventh Grade Math and Science Teacher

Ms. Watkins joined the Brooke Roslindale team in 2018 as a 7th grade math and science teacher. She previously served as a teacher and administrator at Hawthorn Leadership School for Girls in St. Louis, MO. In 2017, Ms. Watkins earned her Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from Columbia University's Teacher's College. As a passionate educator, Ms. Watkins is committed to empowering her students to use their voice and knowledge as a powerful, positive instrument for social change. Ms. Watkins keeps her students entertained with her knee-slapping jokes and silly humor. When she is not molding minds, Ms. Watkins enjoys cooking, seeing live music, and spending time with friends and family.

Mr. Brian Carey

Music Teacher

Brian Carey joined Brooke in 2007 as the founding Music Teacher for Brooke Roslindale. Mr. Carey currently teaches music to grades K-7 and directs The Brooke Steel Band as well as the Brooke Zimbabwean Marimba Ensemble. Mr. Carey has over 25 years experience as a music educator and performer and has previously worked for The San Francisco Ballet, The Urban Bush Women Summer Dance Institute, Performing Arts Workshop, San Francisco Community Music Center, and The Oakland Youth Chorus.

Mr. Schmidt Demas

After serving as an associate teacher starting in 2018, Mr. Demas is now a lead role serving as the art teacher at Brooke Roslindale. With a background in portrait and event photography, Mr. Demas is eager to teach, learn, create and most importantly grow with his students.

Ms. Kaitlyn Edwards

Kaitlyn Edwards joined Brooke in 2012 as the Dance Teacher on the Brooke Roslindale co-curricular team. Before coming to Brooke, Kaitlyn worked at various studios and for the Mansfield Arts and Education Center, teaching dance/ Zumba to both students and adults as well as leading the after school/ summer camp programs.

Mrs. Grossman joined the Brooke team in August, 2007.  She taught grades two, three, four and five. After a short break raising children she came back to run the library where she is currently working.   Prior to Brooke, Mrs. Grossman taught with Teach For America in Atlanta, Georgia.

Ms. Ribeiro returns to the Brooke Roslindale staff for her fourth year after having taught physical education for six years at the Fort River School in Amherst, MA. During that time, she also served as the soccer coach at Amherst Regional High School.

Ms. Tianee Geronimo

Ms. Geronimo graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a B.S. in Natural Resource Conservation and Wildlife Ecology. She is a first-year Associate Teacher hoping to incorporate wildlife into her lesson plans. Prior to Brooke, Ms. Geronimo spent two summers working with urban youth to close the achievement gap. Ms. Geronimo is thrilled to be apart of the Brooke Roslindale team!

Before coming to Brooke, Ms. Maguad worked as a lead tutor in a Boston Public School, an instructor for Galileo Learning in San Francisco, and the program director for Youth for Asian Theater, a not-for-profit serving San Francisco youth.

Ms. Ariana Rodriguez

Ariana Rodriguez joined Brooke in 2019, as an associate teacher at Brooke Roslindale. Before coming to Brooke, Mrs. Rodriguez taught ELL at Pine Manor College in Newton, MA, and also taught ELL in Philadelphia, Argentina, and Ghana.

Ms. Taylor Fote

Ms. Fote joined the Brooke Team in 2016 as the K-3 Student Support Coordinator at Brooke Mattapan. Ms. Fote began her teaching career working with students with special needs at the New England Center for Children. She is very excited to be part of the Brooke Roslindale team.

Ms. Victoria Gaulin

Victoria Gaulin joined Brooke in 2018, as a Student Support Associate Teacher at Brooke Roslindale and is currently serving as the Lower Elementary Student Support Coordinator at Brooke Roslindale. Before coming to Brooke, Ms. Gaulin earned her master's degree in elementary and special education, while also working as a paraprofessional working with students with severe special needs.

Ms. Samantha Guerra

Prior to joining Brooke, Ms. Guerra taught pre-kindergarten at St. Peter Academy in South Boston. Before that, she worked as an MTA for Brockton Public Schools, where she taught classes and provided interventions for students of varying abilities. She also worked as the director of Social Adventures at The Bridge Center, a camp for children and adults who have disabilities.  

Ms. Lauren McAuliffe

ELL Coordinator

Ms. McAuliffe joined the Brooke Roslindale team as an EL Coordinator in 2019. Her career in education began in 2012, when she was placed in Fort Worth, Texas, as a corps member with Teach For America. After working as a dual language teacher for five years, Ms. McAuliffe moved to Philadelphia to pursue her masters degree in Intercultural Communication. She served as a Reading Interventionist at a local charter school for two years while completing her studies. Ms. McAuliffe is passionate about culturally responsive literacy and language development practices. She is both excited and honored to support Brooke's students in learning new content and languages.

Ms. Allison McNamara

M.A., University of Virginia; B.A. University of Virginia Ms. McNamara graduated from the University of Virginia in 2018, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master of Teaching with a dual endorsement in Elementary and Special Education. She is thrilled to be part of the Brooke Roslindale team as a Student Support Coordinator!

Ms. Jessica Middlebrook

Student Support Coordinator

Ms. Jess Middlebrook joined Brooke Roslindale in 2018 as a Student Support Coordinator. Ms.Middlebrook is now currently serving as the Student Support Coordinator in Brooke Roslindale substantially separate 3-5 class. Before coming to Brooke, Ms. Middlebrook completed internships in elementary schools around Boston and served as a Corps Member in the Americorps Jumpstart program. Ms. Middlebrook is thrilled to be serving at Brooke and being a part of the student support team.

Ms. Julie Murphy

In 2011, Ms. Murphy joined Brooke Mattapan as a fifth grade Associate Teacher. In her second year, Ms. Murphy taught fifth grade Math and Science. She received her Master’s degree in 2011 from Boston College. After teaching fourth and fifth grade, Ms. Murphy will serve as the ELL Coordinator at Brooke Roslindale in 2017-2018.

Ms. Julie Planera

Julie Planera joined Brooke in 2016 as an 8th Grade ELA Teacher at Brooke Roslindale. She is currently serving as a student support coordinator. Before coming to Brooke, Mrs. Planera worked in the Boston and Winchendon School districts for ten years, as an English Teacher, Lead Teacher, Data Coach, as well as a sports coach (track and field hockey). She has also worked as a fellow with TeachPlus and an educational Ambassador for WGBH education.

Ms. Cinar joined the Brooke Roslindale team in June of 2012 as the office manager. Prior to joining Brooke she worked as a store manager for 9 years. A few of the things Ms. Cinar oversees is student attendance, student records and all of the schools orders. In the 6 years that she has been apart of the operations team she has built many strong relationships with our Brooke families and she looks forward to the years to come!

Gisselle Alcantara joined Brooke Roslindale in 2017 as a paraprofessional on the student support team. Before coming to Brooke, Ms. Alcantara worked at Match Charter School. She also was the director of a children’s choir and had the privilege to teach kids through music.

Mr. Auston Harris

Mr. Harris was born and raised in Boston, MA. In 2015 he graduated from Matignon High School and took a gap year to further explore his career options and passions. For the past 5 years he has worked closely with children in the community as a camp counselor at Dorchester Bay Summer Camp. In 2017, Mr. Harris joined the Brooke Mattapan team as a Student Culture Aide and began attending Bunker Hill Community College to pursue a degree in Psychology.

Ms. Jessica Knight Pfaffinger

Occupational Therapist

B.S., University of New Hampshire; M.S., University of New Hampshire
Jessica Knight Pfaffinger joined Brooke in 2012 as the Network Occupational Therapist (OT). Since then she has collaborated to assist students across all grade levels access the general education curriculum. Her primary focus is teaching students how to use fine motor, visual-motor, visual processing and sensory processing strategies to increase their participation in school activities. Prior to joining Brooke, Jessica worked as an inpatient and outpatient OT at several pediatric hospitals where she played an active role on many multidisciplinary teams that supported the development, function and participation of children with various physical and cognitive disabilities.

Ms. Abby Ricci

Speech Language Pathologist

B.S., Syracuse University; M.S., Southern Connecticut State University
Abby Ricci joined Brooke in 2017 as a Speech-Language Pathologist on the Brooke Charter Schools network team. Before coming to Brooke, Ms. Ricci had spent her time working as a speech-language pathology graduate student clinician in both school and clinical settings. Ms. Ricci has also served as a graduate teaching assistant and home-based therapy service provider.
