Ms. Elza Mathieu

Principal

B.A., Simmons College, M.A.T., Simmons College
Prior to Brooke, Ms. Mathieu worked with the Cambridge Camping Association and with students with special needs at the New England Center for Children. Ms. Mathieu joined the Brooke Roslindale community in 2008 as a Kindergarten Associate Teacher. She then taught Kindergarten for two years before becoming a founding teacher at the Brooke Mattapan campus in 2011 teaching first grade and kindergarten. She then served as Assistant Principal working with grades K-2 at Brooke Mattapan.

Ms. Katherine Brysh

Assistant Principal

B.S., Miami University in Oxford Ohio; M.Ed., Ursuline College
Ms. Brysh joined the Brooke Mattapan team in 2011 as a founding first grade teacher. She then became a founding first grade teacher at Brooke East Boston in 2012. Before moving to Boston, she taught first grade at Excellence Boys Charter School in Brooklyn, NY for three years. Ms. Brysh began her teaching leading a Kindergarten classroom for one year at Cleveland’s Lighthouse Community School. After completing an instructional leadership fellowship at Brooke, Ms. Brysh served as Assistant Principal working with grades K-2.

Ms. Heidi Ledbetter

Assistant Principal

Heidi Ledbetter joined Brooke in 2014 as a second grade teacher at Brooke East Boston. Since then, Ms. Ledbetter founded the fourth grade team at Brooke East Boston and taught fourth grade for three years. She completed an instructional fellowship during the 2017 - 2018 school year. Ms. Ledbetter is currently serving as the assistant principal for third through fifth grade at Brooke East Boston. Before coming to Brooke, Ms. Ledbetter had five years of teaching experience including third grade, special education, and ELL teacher leader at Fulton Elementary in Aurora, Colorado.

Ms. Ali Valle

Dean of Students

Ali Valle joined Brooke in 2018 as the Dean of Students for Brooke East Boston. Before coming to Brooke, Ms. Valle worked in the city of Chelsea and Chelsea Public Schools as a youth and community enagement specialist.

Ms. Jessica Vasquez

Director of Operations

Jessica Vasquez, joined Brooke in 2013, as a front office manager at Brooke Mattapan. Since then, Ms. Vasquez has been the Operation Fellow and Director of Operations at Brooke. Before coming to Brooke, Ms. Vasquez worked for ABCD Head Start.

Ms. Elaine Silberstein

School Psychologist

Elaine Silberstein joined Brooke in 2018, as a School Psychologist in East Boston. Before coming to Brooke, Ms. Silberstein worked in the Lawrence Public Schools and Arlington Public Schools for two years while completing her master's degree internship.

Amanda Freeland joined Brooke in 2012, as a founding Kindergarten teacher at Brooke East Boston. Before coming to Brooke, Ms. Freeland taught First Grade in Rhode Island as a Teach For America corps member.

Mr. Corrigan Moore

Mr. Moore joined the Brooke Mattapan team as a kindergarten Associate Teacher in 2016. This year Mr. Moore is a kindergarten teacher at Brooke East Boston. Prior to joining the Brooke team, he enjoyed being a college student at Emmanuel College.

Ms. Marianna Spera

Marianna Spera joined Brooke in 2013 as the Kindergarten Associate Teacher at Brooke Mattapan. Since then, Ms. Spera has taught kindergarten at Brooke Mattapan and Brooke East Boston. Ms. Spera is currently serving as a kindergarten teacher at Brooke East Boston.

Ms. Lindsey Williams

Kindergarten Teacher

Ms. Williams joined the Brooke East Boston team in 2017 as a kindergarten teacher. Before moving to Boston, she taught multi-age kindergarten and first grade at Audubon Park Elementary in Orlando, Florida for three years and taught first grade in Camden, New Jersey for two years. Ms. Williams studied elementary education at Burlington, Vermont and received training in arts integration at a local magnet school. Ms. Williams is excited to be working with our youngest Brooke scholars in East Boston!

Ms. Sophie Dennis

First Grade Teacher

B.S., Boston University
After a year and a half teaching English and Science to first graders in Khon Kaen, Thailand, Ms. Dennis returned to Boston to pursue her passion for education. Ms. Dennis is honored to join the Brooke East Boston team as an Associate Teacher.

Ms. Rae Rossetti

First Grade Teacher

B.A., Trinity College
Rae Rossetti joined Brooke in 2016, as an Associate Teacher and Maternity Coverage at Brooke East Boston. Since then, Ms. Rossetti has taught first grade for three years. Before coming to Brooke, Ms. Rossetti worked at the Trinity College Community Child Care Center as an Assistant Teacher.

Ms. Caroline Scherer

First Grade Teacher

M.Ed., University of Michigan
Ms. Scherer originally joined the Brooke East Boston team in 2014 as a first grade teacher after completing her Associate Teaching at Brooke Roslindale. She taught for three years before taking some time to spend with her new born son. She has a master's degree in Educational Studies from the University of Michigan and has spent the last year teaching second grade at the Boston Teachers Union Pilot School in Jamaica Plain. 

Ms. Alex Schroll

First Grade Teacher

B.A., Emmanuel College
Ms. Schroll joined the Brooke East Boston team in 2016 as maternity coverage for third grade and as the third grade Associate Teacher. In September, she then transitioned into a part-time first grade co-teacher role at Brooke East Boston. In 2017, she took on a lead first grade position. Before starting at Brooke, she completed her bachelor's degree in elementary education at Emmanuel College.  This year, Ms. Schroll is thrilled to join the first grade team full time at Brooke East Boston!

Ms. Caroline Allen

Caroline Allen joined Brooke in 2015 as a founding fourth grade teacher at Brooke East Boston. Mrs. Allen is currently serving as a second grade teacher at Brooke East Boston. Before coming to Brooke, Mrs. Allen was a Special Education teacher in Fall River, Massachusetts through Teach For America.

Ms. Erin Gill

Erin Gill joined Brooke in 2018 as a third grade Associate Teacher at Brooke East Boston. Since then Ms. Gill has taught kindergarten at the East Boston Campus. Ms. Gill is currently serving as a second grade teacher at Brooke East Boston. Before coming to Brooke, Ms. Gill served as a City Year Corps member for Providence Public Schools.

Ms. Sophia Vallada

Second Grade Teacher

Sophia Vallada joined Brooke in 2015 as a second grade Associate Teacher at East Boston. Since then, Ms. Vallada has taught first grade for three and half years at Brooke. Ms. Vallada is currently serving as a sceond grade teacher at Brooke East Boston. Before coming to Brooke, Ms. Vallada volunteered at the Latino Student Fund and wrote for The World & I Online for the New World Communications in Washington D.C.

Ms. Kristin Bergstrom

Third Grade Teacher

B.A, Tulane University
After graduating from Tulane University with a B.A. in English and Psychology, Ms. Bergstrom joined the TeachNOLA/TNTP 2008 cohort. She graduated from the program in 2009, with an Early Childhood (PK-3) Certification. Most recently, Ms. Bergstrom was a member of the founding staff at KIPP Central City Primary in New Orleans, LA. Over her five years there, she taught kindergarten, first grade, and third grade. This year, Ms. Bergstrom will return as a second grade teacher for the Brooke East Boston team.

Ms. Alyssa Castellini

Third through Fifth Grade Science Teacher

B.A., University of Canberra; M. Ed, Northeastern State University
Ms. Castellini graduated from the University of Canberra in Canberra, Australia. She completed a Master's of Science Education program through Northeastern State University which has a cohort with the NASA endeavor program for a STEM Leadership Certificate. Ms. Castellini has worked as a 5th/6th grade math and science teacher, 3rd/4th grade multi-age classroom teacher, 3-6 science and social studies teacher, and a 3rd grade classroom teacher. She is very excited to return to her role as the 3rd-5th grade science teacher at Brooke East Boston!

Ms. Lauren Haist

Third Grade Teacher

B.A., College of the Holy Cross; M.Ed., Lesley University
Ms. Haist taught second grade at Brooke Roslindale three years before coming to East Boston. Prior to joining Brooke, Ms. Haist completed her Masters degree at Lesley University. During that time, she served as a second grade teaching intern at the Brookwood School in Manchester, Massachusetts. She will return to Brooke East Boston to teach third grade.

Mr. Avery Margerum

Third Grade Teacher

Mr. Margerum graduated from Bates College in 2018 with a degree in French and European Studies. He previously taught English to middle school students in France and was a teaching fellow in 2016 at Generation Teach in Roxbury, MA. He is excited to live and work in Boston as an Associate Teacher in the Brooke community.

Laura Murphy joined Brooke in 2013, as a second grade teacher at Brooke East Boston. Since then, Ms. Murphy has taught second grade and third grade at East Boston. Ms. Murphy is currently serving as a fourth grade teacher at Brooke East Boston. Before coming to Brooke, she was a 2011 TFA Eastern North Carolina corp member.

Ms. Kelli Serbin

Fourth Grade Teacher

Kelli Serbin joined Brooke in 2015 as a Second Grade Teacher in East Boston. After teaching second grade for three years, Ms. Serbin began teaching fourth grade in 2018.Before coming to Brooke, Ms. Serbin taught first and second grade in South Dakota as a Teach For America 2013 Corps Member.

Mr. Marc Laliberte

Fourth Grade Teacher

Mr. Laliberte joined the Brooke East Boston team in 2018. He graduated from the University of Vermont in 2013 with a degree in Political Science. After graduation, he taught 3rd grade at Amistad Academy Elementary School in New Haven, Connecticut. He is thrilled to join the Boston community. Go Pats!

Ms. Ysabel Cueva

Fifth Grade Teacher

B.A., Stonehill College
Ms. Cueva was born in the Dominican Republic but was raised in the Bronx, NY. While at Stonehill College she majored in criminology and minored in education studies. During her time there she focused on education and social justice. Prior to joining Brooke, Ms. Cueva completed a teaching fellowship with Generation Teach in Boston.

Ms. Carrie Sparkes

Carrie Sparkes joined Brooke in 2017, as a 5th grade teacher at Brooke East Boston. Before coming to Brooke, Ms. Sparkes worked at Roxbury Prep Charter School in Boston for four years, her first year as an apprentice, then as the founding fifth grade reading teacher for three years. After getting her masters, Ms. Sparkes taught English as a second language to prek-third grade students in Santiago, Chile for one year.

Ms. Skylar Washburn

Skylar Washburn joined Brooke in 2015, as a fourth grade teacher. Ms. Washburn is currently serving as a fifth grade teacher. Before coming to Brooke, Ms. Washburn taught second and fourth grade at Leadership Prep Brownsville, in Brooklyn, New York.

Ms. Katie Belle

Sixth Grade English Language Arts and Social Studies Teacher, Chair

Katie Belle joined Brooke in 2012, as a fifth Grade ELA teacher at Brooke Mattapan. Since then, Ms. Belle has taught fifth grade, and now is teaching sixth grade ELA at Brooke East Boston. Before coming to Brooke, Ms. Belle worked as a teacher in the Bronx and as a social worker in Boston.

Ms. Amber Cossette

Sixth Grade English Language Arts and Social Studies Teacher

B.A., Syracuse University
Ms. Cossette's journey to the world of education started at Syracuse University where she earned a degree in both Secondary Education as well as English & Textual Studies. She went on to complete a year of service as an AmeriCorps member working as an ELA tutor, teacher assistant, and cheer coach at Match Middle School in Jamaica Plain. She is thrilled to continue refining her teaching skills and learning from the staff and students at Brooke East Boston this year.

Ms. Kimberly Hinkey

Sixth and Seventh Grade Science Teacher

B.A., George Washington University
Ms. Hinkey graduated with a degree in Anthropology from the George Washington University. Prior to teaching, she was part of a fellowship program with the National Museum of Natural History in their forensic anthropology department. She was a 2014 Teach for America corps member in the DC Region where she taught 5th grade math and science. She then moved to Boston in 2016 to work as a science teacher. She joined the Brooke team in 2019 and is extremely excited to bring the passion for STEM to all of her scholars!

Ms. Jenna Nissan

Sixth Grade English Language Arts and Social Studies Teacher

Ms. Nissan joined the Brooke East Boston team as a fifth grade teacher in August 2013. Previously, Ms. Nissan worked as an assistant teacher in a preschool and kindergarten classroom while earning her master’s degree from the University of Maryland in creative writing. She continued her teaching career in Hartford, Connecticut, where she taught 2nd and 3rd grade as a Teach for America corps member. Ms. Nissan is returning to the Brooke East Boston team this year as a fifth grade teacher.

Ms. Markie Ruggeri

Markie Ruggeri joined Brooke in 2017 as a sixth grade math and science teacher. Currently, she teaches sixth grade math. Before joining Brooke, she was a 2013 Teach For America Corps member in South Carolina. She also worked on TFA's national recruitment team.

Ms. Erica Worthington

Erica Worthington joined Brooke in 2016, as a 6th Grade Math/Science Teacher at Brooke East Boston. Ms. Worthington is currently the 6th/7th Math Teacher at Brooke East Boston. Before coming to Brooke, Ms. Worthington was a middle school science teacher in Seattle, WA and Phoenix, AZ.

Ms. Kamilla Silva

Seventh Grade Math Teacher

Kamilla Esteves Silva joined Brooke in 2018 as a Middle School Math and Science Associate Teacher in East Boston. Ms. Silva is currently serving as the seventh grade math teacher at Brooke East Boston. Before coming to Brooke, Ms. Silva worked at the Amherst-Pelham Regional High School while attending the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Allison Smith joined Brooke in 2019, as 7th Grade ELA/Social Studies teacher at Brooke East Boston. Before coming to Brooke, Ms. Smith worked as a Middle School Humanities teacher in both Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, Maryland. She is a 2014 Teach For America Corps alumni.

Ms. Alexis Teevens

Alexis Teevens joined Brooke in 2013 as an Associate Teacher at Brooke East Boston. Since then, Ms. Teevens has taught 7th grade ELA and social studies at Brooke East Boston.

Mr. Christopher Wallace

Christopher Wallace joined Brooke in 2016 as an Middle School ELA/Social Studies Associate Teacher at Brooke East Boston. Mr. Wallace is now a 7th grade ELA/Social Studies teacher at Brooke East Boston and the DIG (Diversity Initiative Group) representative for the East Boston campus. He also is currently enrolled at Northeastern University working towards his Masters of Arts in Teaching.

Sra. Casillas has been part of the Brooke East Boston team since 2014 as the Spanish Teacher. Prior to Brooke, Sra. Casillas was a teacher in Puerto Rico for seven years. She served as an elementary school Special Education and regular PE teacher.  She completed her education in Puerto Rico before she moved to Boston in 2006. She worked as a Lead Teacher in Jamaica Plain Head Start and two years in BPS. She loves the Spanish language and culture. She looks forward to inspiring children to continue to study Spanish throughout their elementary school years and beyond. Keep Calm and Speak Spanish!

Mr. Luke Ferreira

Physical Education Teacher

Mr. Ferreira joined the Brooke East Boston Team in July of 2015. Prior to Brooke Mr. Ferreira taught P.E. at a number of private and parochial schools all over Boston. Mr. Ferreira is an avid skier and loves the outdoors. He is excited to be returning to Brooke East Boston as the Physical Education teacher.

Mr. Keenan Flowers

Mr. Flowers joins Brooke East Boston as the Music Teacher! As a multi-instrumentalist, Mr. Flowers plans to inspire and nurture scholar's musical growth and instill a lifelong love and understanding of music using a unique combination of in-class teaching, directorial, and playwright experience coupled with four and a half years in music engineering and visual media. Remaining true to his multi-ethnic roots and southern demeanor, he wants everyone he encounters to feel a sense of cultural values, academic appreciation, and readiness to lead our future (scholars) beyond tomorrow.

Ms. Sarah Geary

Movement Arts Teacher

Ms. Geary joined the Brooke East Boston team in 2012 as the founding Movements Arts teacher. After receiving her Bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Massachusetts, Ms. Geary taught all ages and abilities at A Dancer’s Dream in Marblehead, MA for 12 years, earning the title of Assistant Director. She will return to Brooke East Boston to teach Movement Arts and Dance.

Ms. Logan O’Rourke

Art Teacher

Logan O'Rourke joined Brooke in 2018 as the art teacher at Brooke East Boston. Since then, Ms. O'Rourke has worked with scholars in grades K-7 on learning how to find their creative voices through the visual arts, and she is also responsible for curating student artwork on the East Boston campus.

Ms. Karen Price

Spanish Teacher

Karen Price joined Brooke in 2017, as an Associate Teacher for lower elementary at Brooke Mattapan. Ms. Price is currently serving as a Spanish teacher at Brooke East Boston for kinder to seventh grade. Before coming to Brooke, Ms. Price served as a Peace Corps Youth Development Coordinator in Costa Rica for 27 months, while earning her graduate degree from Wheelock College.

Ms. Nancy Figueroa

Ms. Figueroa is excited to join the student support team as an Associate Teacher! She obtained her B.A. in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts Boston and is currently finishing her Master's in Special Education at Lesley University. Prior to joining Brooke, Ms. Figueroa worked as a Human Resources Coordinator at Cengage Learning.

Mr. Jordan Grace

Jordan Grace joined Brooke in 2018, as a Math Associate Teacher at Brooke's Eighth Grade Academy. Since then, Mr. Grace has filled in as an algebra teacher and coached the girls basketball team at the Eighth Grade Academy. Mr. Grace is now a Math Associate Teacher at Brooke East Boston, on the Middle School Team. Before Coming to Brooke, Mr. Grace served as a Paraprofessional at Cambridge Public Schools.

Alice Wang joined Brooke in 2019 as an Associate Teacher for the 3rd Grade at Brooke East Boston. Before coming to Brooke, Ms. Wang studied English and Psychology at Wellesley College, while also working at a daycare on campus and teaching students through various education non-profits.

Ms. Kaitlyn Ellis

Ms. Ellis graduated from Keene State College in 2012 with a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education. The following school year, she completed a Masters of Education with a concentration in Special Education. In 2013 she began working as a Special Education Teacher in a resource room setting in the Keene School District. After moving back to Boston, Ms. Ellis joined the Brooke Mattapan community as the Student Support Coordinator.

Ms. Sarah Becker

Ms. Becker was part of the founding Brooke East Boston team in 2012. Prior to working at Brooke, she taught first grade for two years in Brockton, MA, while also earning her M.Ed. at Boston College in Reading and Literacy Education. Ms. Becker is excited to be in her sixth year as an ELL Coordinator at Brooke East Boston.

Ms. Kristen Pomer

Ms. Pomer graduated Providence College in 2013 with a degree with Elementary and Special Education. While student teaching in both a 2nd grade and self-contained special education classroom she tutored and mentored Middle School students as part of the Breakthrough Providence after school program. She spent last year teaching 3rd grade reading classes and Special Education at Achievement First Charter School in New Haven, CT. Ms. Pomer is joining the Brooke East Boston Team this year as a Student Support Coordinator.

Ms. Nicole Reiner

Prior to joining BCS, Ms. Reiner worked for a variety of non-profit organizations in the Boston area. In 2015, she moved to New Orleans where she served as an interventionist and special education teacher for KIPP New Orleans for three years.

Ms. Lombardo joined the Brooke East Boston team in 2015 as High School Placement Manager, and then became the Student Engagement Coordinator & School Translator in 2016. Before coming to Brooke, Ms. Lombardo was living and working in Buenos Aires, Argentina as the Assistant Director of Student Life for NYU's Global Office at the Buenos Aires campus where she worked with college students studying abroad and assisting them with housing, immigration, cultural acculturation, field trips, counseling, event planning, discipline and more!  Ms. Lombardo is happy to be part of the Operations Team at Brooke East Boston!

Ms. Eva LaPaz

Ms. LaPaz is a Brooke alumni, Brooke Roslindale class of  2014.  Ms. LaPaz started out as  a part of Brooke East Bostons founding Operations team and is  currently  the Operations Coordinator.  Ms. LaPaz is excited to continue her education while being a part of Brooke's awesome team!

Ms. Lauren Stafford

School Instruction and Culture Coordinator

Lauren Stafford joined Brooke in 2017, as an eighth grade Associate Teacher at Brooke Mattapan. Ms. Stafford then moved to the East Boston campus and is currently serving as the School Culture Coordinator. Before coming to Brooke, Ms. Stafford taught third grade in New Orleans at KIPP Charter School.

Ms. Libia Acosta

School Culture Aide

Libia Acosta will be joining East Boston Brooke Charter School with the Culture Aide position. She had been over for over a year at Willow Path Childcare where she learned a lot about childcare and the responsibility that comes with that. She is very excited to able to work in a new job field where she will learn the importance of helping children that attend a charter school.

Ms. Anitra Reed

School Culture Aide

Ms. Reed has been apart of the Brooke family for over 6 years. She is a parent at Brooke and is currently serving a dual role as a Bus Monitor and Culture Aide. Jessica Knight Pfaffinger joined Brooke in 2012 as the Network Occupational Therapist (OT). Since then she has collaborated to assist students across all grade levels access the general education curriculum. Her primary focus is teaching students how to use fine motor, visual-motor, visual processing and sensory processing strategies to increase their participation in school activities. Prior to joining Brooke, Jessica worked as an inpatient and outpatient OT at several pediatric hospitals where she played an active role on many multidisciplinary teams that supported the development, function and participation of children with various physical and cognitive disabilities.
