Ms. Waldman taught third grade for two years in Las Vegas as a Teach for America corps member and served as the grade level chair. Ms. Waldman taught second and fourth grade at Brooke for several years before serving as Assistant Principal at Brooke Roslindale. Ms. Waldman is thrilled to serve as the Principal at Brooke Mattapan!

Ms. Blair joined the Brooke Mattapan campus in 2011 as a fifth grade math and science teacher after teaching fourth grade for two years in Atlanta, GA. She was a 2009 Teach for America corps member. This year, Ms. Blair serves as Assistant Principal, and is also completing an Instructional Fellowship to become Principal of the 8th Grade Academy.

Prior to Brooke, Ms. Mathieu worked with the Cambridge Camping Association and with students with special needs at the New England Center for Children. Ms. Mathieu joined the Brooke Roslindale community in 2008 as a Kindergarten Associate Teacher. She then taught Kindergarten for two years before becoming a founding teacher at the Brooke Mattapan campus in 2011 teaching first grade and kindergarten. This year, she will serve as Assistant Principal working with grades K-2.

Ms. Swartz first joined Brooke Mattapan in 2012 as a founding sixth grade teacher.  She then jumped down a grade level and taught incoming fifth graders at Brooke Mattapan for two years.  In 2015, Ms. Swartz temporarily left Brooke to become the Dean of Curriculum and Instruction for the fourth and fifth grades at UP Academy – Holland, a Level 5 Turnaround school in the Boston Public School system.  Before moving to Boston, she taught for six years in the Washington, D.C. Public Schools and two Chicago charter schools, spanning classes in the first through fourth grades.  Ms. Swartz is excited to return to Brooke Mattapan as the Instructional Fellow for third through fifth grades.

Ms. Vasquez joined the Brooke Mattapan team in May 2013. Before joining the Brooke Mattapan, Ms. Vasquez worked for Action for Boston Community Development as the Assistant to the Head Start Director. After completing an Operations Fellowship, Ms. Vasquez is excited to return this year as a member of the Brooke Mattapan community as the Director of Operations.

Ms. Kovatch earned her BSB/M at the University of Phoenix and is currently attaining her Master’s Degree in Education. Ms. Kovatch joined the Brooke Mattapan team after having served as the lead middle school math and science teacher at The Cloud Forest School in Monteverde, Costa Rica, a non-profit, bilingual school with a focus on environmental education and sustainability. While lead teaching, Ms. Kovatch co-founded the Escuela Intermedia, a new model within the school aimed at increasing rigor and culture of achievement within grades 5-7.

Mr. Clifford serves as the Dean of Students at Brooke Mattapan.  Prior to Brooke, Mr. Clifford served as the director of the Cardigan Mountain School summer program, and also taught middle and high school science in Louisville, Kentucky for six years.

Prior to joining Brooke, Ms. Brydie worked within the Boston Public School system at the John P. Holland Elementary School from 2011 until 2014. During this time she worked with second and fourth grade students. During college, Ms. Brydie worked for America Reads as a third grade tutor helping them improve math and reading skills. Ms. Brydie is a Brooke Charter School alumnus, and re-joined the Brooke community as an Associate Teacher before becoming a lead kindergarten teacher.

Ms. Brysh joined the Brooke Mattapan team in 2011 as a founding first grade teacher. She then became a founding first grade teacher at Brooke East Boston in 2012. Before moving to Boston, she taught first grade at Excellence Boys Charter School in Brooklyn, NY for three years. Ms. Brysh began her teaching leading a Kindergarten classroom for one year at Cleveland’s Lighthouse Community School. After completing an instructional leadership fellowship at Brooke, Ms. Brysh served as Assistant Principal working with grades K-2. This year, Ms. Brysh is thrilled to join the kinder team at Brooke Mattapan!

Ms. Dorvil first joined the Brooke team in 2014-2015 school year as an Associate Teacher and then joined the second grade team as a lead teacher. Prior to joining Brooke, she worked as a volunteer coordinating mentoring and tutoring programs for her community. She also volunteered with United Way in the Mercer County working with low income families.  She has experience working with students through Jumpstart, an AmeriCorps program; she also worked as an instructor for a summer robotics program at the University of Maryland. Ms. Dorvil is excited to teach kindergarten at Brooke Mattapan!

Upon completing her degree in 2013, Ms. Doherty moved to Brooklyn to teach kindergarten at Leadership Prep Ocean Hill withUncommon Schools for four years. Ms. Lara relocated to Boston from Puerto Rico in 2014, where she taught as a First Grade Two-Way Dual Immersion Classroom Teacher at the Amigos School in Cambridge, MA for two years.Before moving to Boston, Ms. Lara taught  First Grade in Colegio Puertorriqueno de Ninas in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico for eight years. Ms. Lara began her teaching career as a middle and High School ELA teacher at Academia San Jorge for two years and Saint John’s School for one year. Ms. Lara is very happy to have joined the Brooke Mattapan Community as a Second Grade Teacher!

Mr. Kaufman attended the University of Oregon where he earned his degree in journalism and communication. After graduation, he moved to New York City to pursue a career in film and television production. Seeking a more fulfilling line of work, Mr. Kaufman began volunteering in NYC public schools, tutoring children who needed additional reading support. This led to a full-time teaching job at Leadership Prep Ocean Hill Charter School in Brooklyn where he taught 4th grade for the past three years. Mr. Kaufman has a Masters degree in Childhood Education and is excited to be a fifth grade teacher with Brooke.

She helped found an elementary school there and after serving as grade team leader, she became Democracy Prep Harlem Elementary School’s principal, a position she held proudly for three years. She is excited to be back in the classroom as a fifth grade teacher!

Ms. Brown is a scientist and STEM educator, who holds a B.A. in Chemistry and Spanish from Smith College and an M.A.T. in Elementary STEM Education from Tufts University. She has shared authentic science learning with kids of all ages as a museum educator in Boston, Springfield, and Oakland, and as a teaching fellow and volunteer coordinator with Citizen Schools. She is thrilled to bring this hands-on, student-centered approach to science to Brooke as a 3-5 Science Teacher.

Ms. Wallace has worked in the field of youth work and education for the past eighteen years. She has worked extensively on social change in education across London, England, where she worked as an Inclusions Officer in secondary schools, a Social Studies teacher, and a Youth and Community Worker in the borough of Greenwich. A special highlight of her teaching vocation so far has been teaching Mathematics and English in Botswana and South Africa. Ms. Wallace recently taught third grade in the Bronx, New York, for three years. She holds a B.A. in Education, an M.A. in Creative Writing and an M.Sc. in Early Childhood Education and Special Education.

Ms. Gentile worked at Boston Prep for five years teaching sixth grade math and science. She is thrilled to be joining the Brooke Mattapan team.

Ms. Johnson earned her BA in Psychology with a concentration in Women and Gender Studies from Carleton College. During her undergraduate summers, she taught middle school math and Leadership Academy at LearningWorks at Blake: A Breakthrough Program in Minneapolis, MN. Upon graduating, she served as Student Services Director at LearningWorks for three years. Along with coaching middle school volleyball and high school softball at The Blake School, Ms. Johnson served as Director of Cornerstone, an affinity group for students of color at Blake focusing on positive identity development, and dismantling systems of power, privilege, and oppression. In 2014, Ms. Johnson was a member of the School Leadership Program at Harvard Graduate School of Education, where she earned her Master’s degree of Education and served as Principal Intern at Community Charter School of Cambridge.

Mr. Magoon graduated from The College of Wooster in 2014 with a degree in English and Education. During his final year in college, Mr. Magoon wrote an “Independent Study Thesis” of fictional short stories inspired by the desegregation of the Boston Public Schools in the 1970’s. He joined Brooke Charter Schools as a member of the 2014-2015 Associate Teacher Program. Mr. Magoon returns to Brooke Mattapan as an eighth grade ELA and social studies teacher.

Ms. Ellis graduated from Keene State College in 2012 with a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education. The following school year, she completed a Masters of Education with a concentration in Special Education. In 2013 she began working as a Special Education Teacher in a resource room setting in the Keene School District. Ms. Ladd in graduated from St. Joseph’s University in 2014 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education (Prek-4), and in 2015 with a Master’s Degree in Special Education. During her time at St. Joseph’s University, Ms. Ladd spent time completing field work in the Philadelphia Public School system. Prior to working at Brooke, she worked at KIPP Philadelphia Elementary Academy focusing on the Wilson Reading Program. Ms. Ladd joined the Brooke Mattapan community as an Associate Teacher and went on to teach third grade as a lead teacher.  Ms. Ladd is now very excited to serve in the role of Student Support Coordinator.

Originally trained as an Expressive Arts Therapist, Ms. Moldover discovered her love for education while working as a teacher’s aide in her former elementary school. She received her MA in Special Education from Columbia University Teacher’s College and spent several years teaching in an ICT classroom in New York City. She is excited to return to Brooke Mattapan as a Student Support Coordinator.

Prior to joining Brooke, Ms. Goldin had experience providing occupational therapy services in a various children’s hospitals and school settings. At Brooke Mattapan, Ms. Goldin provides individual and small group occupational therapy support.

Ms. Nitolo joined the Brooke Mattapan team as the ELL Coordinator in 2015.  She began teaching in 2001 as an AmeriCorps VISTA Volunteer with ReadBoston. She then taught preschool at South End Head Start for two years.  She also supported ESL instruction from Pre-K to 12th grade as a Bilingual Liaison in South Carolina for three years.  Most recently, before coming to Brooke, Ms. Nitolo taught K-8 Spanish for four years at a charter school in California.

Ms. Lloyd joined the Brooke team in May 2015 as a speech-language pathologist clinical fellow, upon graduation from Northeastern University. Ms. Lloyd has experience working with K-8th grade students in Boston and Waltham public schools. Additionally, she has worked at private practices throughout the Boston area.

Dr. Oyer graduated from Duke University in 2009 with B.A. in psychology and religion. She then attended Temple University where she earned her M.Ed. in school psychology in 2010 and Ph.D. in 2014. Prior to joining the Brooke team, Dr. Oyer worked at a charter school in Philadelphia serving as the school psychologist and director of individualized student services. She is excited to be a part of the Brooke Mattapan community.

Ms. Ricci is thrilled to join the Brooke Mattapan team as a speech-language pathologist clinical fellow. She is a graduate from Southern Connecticut State University where she served as the department’s graduate teaching assistant. She received her B.S. in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Syracuse University in 2015. She has a variety of experience working with children in a multitude of settings including schools, homes, and outpatient clinics.

Mr. Albelo graduated from Bentley University in 2006 with a degree in Business Management. After graduation, he worked for State Street Bank as a Senior Account Controller and then honorably served four years in the United States Coast Guard as a Machinery Technician. Upon leaving the service, he attended graduate school at the University of Miami where he received a Master of Education degree in Sport Administration. He returned to Massachusetts as a Classroom Assistant for the Darnell School, a private special needs school in Hudson. Mr. Albelo is thrilled to join the Brooke Mattapan team as the Physical Education Teacher and Assistant Athletic Director .

Ms. Alvahydo joined Brooke as Spanish teacher in 2016. She has over ten years of experience teaching Spanish, Portuguese, and French. Prior to joining Brooke, Ms. Alvahydo was a lecturer at the University of Georgia, the University of South Carolina, Middlebury College, Georgia State University, Bridgewater State University and, most recently, at Simmons College. She is excited to return to the Brooke Mattapan team this year.

Ms. Acevedo joined Brooke Mattapan as the Office Manager. Prior to coming to Brooke Mattapan, Ms. Acevedo provided maternity leave coverage for the Office Manager at Brooke Roslindale. Before entering the education field, Ms. Acevedo worked as the Head Cake Decorator at Whole Foods (the staff enjoys her talents with food!). She completed her culinary degree at Bunker Hill Community College.

Ms. Price joined the Brooke Mattapan team in March 2017 as an Associate Teacher for second grade. Before coming to Brooke, she served in the Peace Corps, as a Youth Development Coordinator in Costa Rica for 27 months. While in the Peace Corps she helped build the only library in the rural community. Ms. Price has worked with children of all ages, from new born to 18 years of age. Ms. Price has recently completed her graduate studies in educational studies. Ms. Price is delighted to join Brooke this year as an Associate Teacher for second grade!

This is Ms. Valles’ first year at Brooke Mattapan, having graduated from Harvard with a Social Studies degree in May 2017. During her years in undergrad, Ms. Valles was involved in afterschool mentoring programs as well as working for the admissions office as part of the Harvard First Generation Program. She also volunteered teaching English while studying abroad in Barcelona in the fall of 2015. This is her first time in a first grade classroom and she is so excited to learn from Brooke’s amazing teachers!

Ms. Ortiz joined the Brooke Mattapan team in 2017 as a School Culture Aide. Prior to joining our team, Ms. Ortiz was a bus monitor for BPS Transportation and a Brooke parent! Her son joined our school in 2011 when Brooke Mattapan first opened and she has been part of our community since then.

Mr. Harris was born and raised in Boston, MA. In 2015 he graduated from Matignon High School and took a gap year to further explore his career options and passions. For the past 5 years he has worked closely with children in the community as a camp counselor at Dorchester Bay Summer Camp. In 2017, Mr. Harris joined the Brooke Mattapan team as a Student Culture Aide and began attending Bunker Hill Community College to pursue a degree in Psychology.
