In most math classrooms, teachers present a problem, demonstrate the solution and then have the students practice. It’s dubbed the “I do-we do-you do” method of instruction... Not at Brooke. Here, teachers start by presenting a new problem and invite the students to solve it on their own... Then there's a classroom discussion about the different ways students tried to solve it... Ideally, they carry the weight of the instruction, learning from one another.

Our New

Brooke High School

Establishing Brooke High School was a critical part of our mission to ensure our scholars’ success in college and beyond. We initially launched Brooke High School in August 2016 with a founding class of 9th graders and a temporary site in Dorchester. Brooke High moved to its new, permanent Mattapan site in August 2018. Our Brooke High model incorporates:

  • A rigorous Advanced Placement (AP) for All program, requiring all students to complete 3 AP courses to graduate
  • An advisory program where teachers and staff work closely with smaller groups of 10-15 scholars
  • Over 30 different enrichment and extracurricular activities, ranging from electives that meet twice per week to a growing number of clubs and sports, and
  • College counseling support, guiding our scholars toward high quality college options with a history of supporting low-income and first-generation students
