Ms. Cardoso is returning for her twelfth year at Brooke, and after five years as a second grade teacher, Ms. Cardoso will teach third grade – having worked for the five years as a fifth grade teacher and reading specialist. Prior to working at Brooke, she worked for three years as a second grade teacher at Shakespeare Elementary School in New York City. Ms. Cardoso was a 2001 Teach for America corps member.

Ms. Hammond joined the Brooke Mattapan team in 2012 as a kindergarten teacher. After teaching kindergarten for two years at Brooke Mattapan, she transitioned to the Brooke Roslindale team as an Assistant Principal Fellow and second grade reading and math teacher. Currently, Ms. Hammond is the Kindergarten-third grade Assistant Principal at Brooke Roslindale. Prior to Brooke, she taught pre-kindergarten through Teach for America in Chicago.

Ms. Hugo spent two years teaching high school English in Fall River, MA prior to coming to Brooke. While teaching, she earned her Master’s degree in Special Education. Ms. Hugo taught as an eighth grade English Language Arts and Social Studies teacher but this year she will be returning to Brooke Roslindale as an Assistant Principal.

Ms. Thurman graduated from Boston University with a degree in Political Science and completed her Masters of Education in Curriculum and Teaching at Boston University. She comes to Brooke after completing the Citizen Schools Teaching Fellowship and teaching 6th grade Humanities for two years at a Boston Public School. She was a 2012 Teach For America corps member. Ms. Thurman completed an Operations Fellowship at Brooke Mattapan and now serves as the Director of Operations for Brooke Roslindale.

Mr. Martinez returns to Brooke Roslindale for his eleventh year. After serving as just the middle school Dean of Students for several years, he began serving as the Dean of Students for all students, K-8, in 2008. Prior to joining Brooke, Mr. Martinez worked at Cathedral High School and Boston Renaissance Charter School.

Prior to teaching at Brooke, Ms. Giammarino taught in Boston Public Schools, teaching fourth grade and science for six years. This year she will teach Kindergarten.

Ms. Ouellette was a founding teacher at Brooke elementary; she joined the Brooke staff in 2006 as a First Grade Teacher. Before that, Ms. Ouellette taught first grade at the Mystic Valley Regional Charter School for five years and served as the first grade lead for two of those years. In her last year at Mystic Valley, Ms. Ouellette served as the Professional Development Coordinator for kindergarten through third grade. Ms. Ouellette will be returning this year as a Kindergarten teacher.

Ms. Bass is a 2010 graduate from UMB with a degree in English. She has previously taught at Edith C. Baker elementary in Brookline as a 3rd grade teacher. Ms. Bass has also worked as a special education coordinator at Brookline High School. Ms. Bass returns to Brooke Roslindale as a first grade teacher after completing her Associate Teacher Fellowship.

Ms. Rajlai earned a Bachelors Degree in Counseling and Human Services at the University of Scranton. She continued her journey at the University and received a Master’s Degree in Early and Primary Education for grades Pre-K through 4th. She was also involved in a Hip Hop Dance Team and loves choreography. Prior to Brooke Charter School, Alice worked as a second grade teacher at the Neighborhood Charter School of Harlem in New York City and became the Team leader. She is very passionate about teaching and loves to create a fun and exciting classroom environment for her scholars. She believes that educators have the ability to make a positive change in this world.

She continues to be an active member of her community, Roxbury, as a co-organizer of an annual conference for young girls of color. Ms. Vargas is thrilled to be a part the Brooke Roslindale team as a first grade teacher.

Before joining Brooke, Ms. Dixon worked for the Harvard Achievement Support Initiative through Harvard University and spent two years as a City Year Boston corps member. She has an M. Ed in Educational Leadership from Boston College and is finishing her second M. Ed in Elementary Education from Cambridge College.

Ms. Crawford is very excited to come aboard as a Second Grade Associate Teacher at Brooke Roslindale.

After earning her Bachelors degree in Sociology with a minor in Psychology, Women’s Studies and Ethnic Studies, Ms. Midy had the pleasure of becoming a part of the Brooke Network in 2017. She joined the Westfield State kindergarten classroom as a paraprofessional where she’s been able to nurture her passion for academics, diversity, and inclusion. And, it has been a wonderful experience so far!

In addition to being a long-term substitute teaching fifth-grade math and science in Charlottesville City Schools in 2015, she was a math teaching intern at The Steppingstone Academy in 2013 and a math and French teacher with Breakthrough Collaborative in her hometown of Norfolk, VA in 2010. Previously, she taught pre-k in West Chester, seventh grade in Denver, and eighth grade in West Philly. She spends her summers on the leadership team for the GT STEAM Academy as well. Ms. Watkins joined the Brooke Roslindale team in 2018 as a 7th grade math and science teacher. She previously served as a teacher and administrator at Hawthorn Leadership School for Girls in St. Louis, MO. In 2017, Ms. Watkins earned her Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Columbia University’s Teacher’s College. As a passionate educator, Ms. Watkins is committed to empowering her students to use their voice and knowledge as a powerful, positive instrument for social change. Ms. Watkins keeps her students entertained with her knee-slapping jokes and silly humor. When she is not molding minds, Ms. Watkins enjoys cooking, seeing live music, and spending time with friends and family.

Ms. Anjos graduated from UMass Amherst with a degree in Psychology, and minors in Education and Spanish. She completed her pre-practicum in a Kindergarten classroom and after, spent one year working with varying ages in early childhood programs in the Central Mass region. Ms. Anjos completed a year in the teaching fellowship program at Neighborhood House Charter School in Dorchester. As the first grade special education teaching fellow, she worked with a team to create and implement daily intervention for students struggling with academics and/or executive functioning skills. Additionally, she had the opportunity to assess students that needed an IEP, and assist in developing and carrying out their academic goals. Last year, she was a First Grade Associate Teacher and she is thrilled to be back at Brooke Roslindale to grow even more, through her role as a Second Grade Associate Teacher!

After graduation, she served as an AmericaCorps VISTA at Boston Medical Center coordinating and managing trauma-informed practices exploring the effectiveness of intervention in early elementary classrooms in Roxbury and Dorchester. Prior to joining Brooke, she taught as a Special Education Teacher. She is excited to continue developing as an educator with Brooke as an Associate Teacher!

Prior to obtaining her degree, she served as a teaching fellow in the Breakthrough Collaborative program where she taught 7th grade Biology. Since receiving her degree, she has served as a K-5 art teacher at the KidsArt after school program in Jamaica Plain. Also she excelled as the first ever visual arts teacher at the newly established Brooke High School in 2017. Due to her in-depth and relevant experience we are excited to have her as our K-8 visual arts teacher.

Ms. Edwards has taught various styles of dance to children and adults of all ages for the past six years. She established Bridgewater State University’s Kinetic Edge Hip Hop Team in 2008 and served as a representative for the school’s Dance Advisory Committee. In 2011, Ms. Murphy joined Brooke Mattapan as a fifth grade Associate Teacher. In her second year, Ms. Murphy taught fifth grade Math and Science. She received her Master’s degree in 2011 from Boston College. After teaching fourth and fifth grade, Ms. Murphy will serve as the ELL Coordinator at Brooke Roslindale in 2017-2018.

Ms. Cinar joined the Brooke Roslindale team in June of 2012 as the office manager. Prior to joining Brooke she worked as a store manager for 9 years. A few of the things Ms. Cinar oversees is student attendance, student records and all of the schools orders. In the 6 years that she has been apart of the operations team she has built many strong relationships with our Brooke families and she looks forward to the years to come!

Mr. Smith is no stranger to the Brooke community, having worked closely with the network during his time with the Boston Compact. He joins Brooke as Operations Fellow for the 2016-17 school year. A graduate of Northeastern University, he previously served as Operations Associate for a Citizen Schools program in Boston. Mr. Smith is a native of Baltimore, MD and, in his free time, enjoys cooking and volunteering as a Big Brother.

Ms. Kali came to know Brooke as a parent back in 2005.  Her boys Christopher and Eric both graduated from Brooke Roslindale. She temporarily covered for Ms. Cinar in 2016 as our Officer Manager, then later returned permanently as our Student Culture Aid.

Ms. Sferrazza, a Boston-area native, graduated from Hofstra University with a BA in English Creative Writing & Literature in 2008. She then worked in the marketing and advertising industries in NYC for seven years before coming back to Boston to pursue her graduate degree in Teaching English as a Second Language. She graduated from Boston University with her EdM in 2016, then moved to Spain to teach English to native Catalan and Spanish speakers. She spent the 2017-2018 school year teaching ESL at high school in Boston. She is excited to join the Brooke team and to teach ESL at both Brooke High School and Brooke Roslindale.

Mr. Peters joined the Brooke staff in 2005 as the building manager, supporting the building’s expansion into a full middle school and then the addition of the elementary school. Prior to coming to Brooke, Mr. Peters worked at Mount Saint Joseph Academy in Brighton as its building manager and for the Wingate nursing homes.
