Ms. Waldman taught third grade for two years in Las Vegas as a Teach for America corps member and served as the grade level chair. Ms. Waldman taught second and fourth grade at Brooke for several years before serving as Assistant Principal at Brooke Roslindale. Ms. Waldman is thrilled to serve as the Principal at Brooke Mattapan!

Dr. Oyer graduated from Duke University in 2009 with B.A. in psychology and religion. She then attended Temple University where she earned her M.Ed. in school psychology in 2010 and Ph.D. in 2014. Prior to joining the Brooke team, Dr. Oyer worked at a charter school in Philadelphia serving as the school psychologist and director of individualized student services. She is excited to be a part of the Brooke Mattapan community.

Ms. Swartz first joined Brooke Mattapan in 2012 as a founding sixth grade teacher.  She then jumped down a grade level and taught incoming fifth graders at Brooke Mattapan for two years.  In 2015, Ms. Swartz temporarily left Brooke to become the Dean of Curriculum and Instruction for the fourth and fifth grades at UP Academy – Holland, a Level 5 Turnaround school in the Boston Public School system.  Before moving to Boston, she taught for six years in the Washington, D.C. Public Schools and two Chicago charter schools, spanning classes in the first through fourth grades.  Ms. Swartz is excited to return to Brooke Mattapan as the Instructional Fellow for third through fifth grades.

Ms. Wallace has worked in the field of youth work and education for the past eighteen years. She has worked extensively on social change in education across London, England, where she worked as an Inclusions Officer in secondary schools, a Social Studies teacher, and a Youth and Community Worker in the borough of Greenwich. A special highlight of her teaching vocation so far has been teaching Mathematics and English in Botswana and South Africa. Ms. Wallace recently taught third grade in the Bronx, New York, for three years. She holds a B.A. in Education, an M.A. in Creative Writing and an M.Sc. in Early Childhood Education and Special Education. Prior to becoming an assistant principal, Ms. Wallace taught sixth grade English language arts and social studies at Brooke Mattapan.

Ms. Walsh is ecstatic to work with families and scholars in the Brooke Mattapan community. She began teaching through Teach For America in Washington, D.C. and then moved to New York City. She helped found an elementary school there and after serving as grade team leader, she became Democracy Prep Harlem Elementary School’s principal, a position she held proudly for three years. She taught as a fifth grade teacher before becoming an assistant principal.

Mr. Clifford serves as the Dean of Students at Brooke Mattapan.  Prior to Brooke, Mr. Clifford served as the director of the Cardigan Mountain School summer program, and also taught middle and high school science in Louisville, Kentucky for six years.

Mr. Francois Graduated from Andrews University in 2012. While there he studied Social Work in hopes to one day work with children. After graduating Mr. Francois felt impressed to transition into teaching. He started working with kindergarten aged children, Elementary Special Education, and 6th grade history in a span of 5 years. Mr. Francois has a passion for student achievement and character development and is excited to continue that work here at Brooke Mattapan.

Ms. Taylor graduated from the Harvard Graduate School of Education with a Masters in Education Policy and Management. Prior to graduate school, she taught 3rd grade ELA in Harlem and served as the 3rd grade Team Leader. She focused on teaching students critical thinking skills through the lens of political and social activism. She’s excited to join the Brooke Mattapan team as the Director of Operations!

Ms. Blackney is a Kindergarten teacher, originally from Villanova, Pennsylvania. She is familiar with the Boston area from her time as an undergraduate at Boston College where she studied Applied Psychology and Human Development in the Lynch School of Education and Communications and Philosophy in the school of Arts and Sciences. Ms. Blackney spent two years teaching in charter schools in the Washington Heights area of Manhattan before returning to Boston to bring her love of working with children to Brooke Mattapan!

She began her work as a educator in her hometown of Amherst, Massachusetts interning with the integrated arts program at Wildwood Elementary School and then working at the Summer of Power program for high school English Language Learners in Holyoke. She then traveled abroad as a Fulbright Scholar to teach English at a university in Barranquilla, Colombia. Most recently, she taught 3rd grade in Brooklyn. Ms. Lee began her teaching career in New York City as a first grade teacher and Teach for America corps member. She then taught Kindergarten, first grade and served as a student support teacher at Brooke Roslindale. Since that time, Ms. Lee has worked as a student support coordinator, instructional coach and special education teacher within other district and charter schools here in Boston.  Last year, Ms. Lee returned to Brooke Mattapan as a 4th grade math teacher. Ms. Lee is very excited to join the first grade team!

She has shared authentic science learning with kids of all ages as a museum educator in Boston, Springfield, and Oakland, and as a teaching fellow and volunteer coordinator with Citizen Schools. She is thrilled to bring this hands-on, student-centered approach to science to Brooke as a 3-5 Science Teacher.

Ms. Mejia was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts. In 2012, she graduated from Stonehill College with a double major in Criminology and Sociolgy. Shortly after graduating, Ms. Mejia became employed by the Plymouth County District Attorney’s office with a role as a Victim/Witness Advocate for District and Superior Courts. Ms. Mejia remained in this role for 2 years while pursuing her Masters degree in Social Work from Wheelock College. With a primary focus on children, Ms. Mejia gained unique hands-on experiences while interning for organizations like the Boys and Girls Club and Big Sister, Big Brother. Following her graduation from Wheelock College in 2015, Ms. Mejia worked as an ongoing social worker for the Department of Children and Families for a year before transitioning into Brooke for her role as an Associate Teacher. For this upcoming year, Ms. Mejia is excited to continue her work as an Associate Teacher!

During her years in undergrad, Ms. Valles was involved in afterschool mentoring programs as well as working for the admissions office as part of the Harvard First Generation Program. She also volunteered teaching English while studying abroad in Barcelona in the fall of 2015. This is her first time in a first grade classroom and she is so excited to learn from Brooke’s amazing teachers!

Mr. Kaufman attended the University of Oregon where he earned his degree in journalism and communication. After graduation, he moved to New York City to pursue a career in film and television production. Seeking a more fulfilling line of work, Mr. Kaufman began volunteering in NYC public schools, tutoring children who needed additional reading support. This led to a full-time teaching job at Leadership Prep Ocean Hill Charter School in Brooklyn where he taught 4th grade for the past three years. Mr. Kaufman has a Masters degree in Childhood Education and is excited to be a fifth grade teacher with Brooke.

Prior to joining Brooke, Ms. Brydie worked within the Boston Public School system at the John P. Holland Elementary School from 2011 until 2014. During this time she worked with second and fourth grade students. During college, Ms. Brydie worked for America Reads as a third grade tutor helping them improve math and reading skills. Ms. Brydie is a Brooke Charter School alumnus, and re-joined the Brooke community as an Associate Teacher before becoming a lead kindergarten teacher.

Ms. Gentile worked at Boston Prep for five years teaching sixth grade math and science. She is thrilled to be joining the Brooke Mattapan team.

Ms. Johnson earned her BA in Psychology with a concentration in Women and Gender Studies from Carleton College. During her undergraduate summers, she taught middle school math and Leadership Academy at LearningWorks at Blake: A Breakthrough Program in Minneapolis, MN. Upon graduating, she served as Student Services Director at LearningWorks for three years. Along with coaching middle school volleyball and high school softball at The Blake School, Ms. Johnson served as Director of Cornerstone, an affinity group for students of color at Blake focusing on positive identity development, and dismantling systems of power, privilege, and oppression. In 2014, Ms. Johnson was a member of the School Leadership Program at Harvard Graduate School of Education, where she earned her Master’s degree of Education and served as Principal Intern at Community Charter School of Cambridge.

In 2014, she completed a service year with the Dudley Promise Corps. Having the desire to continue her commitment to quality education and equity for children who look like her, in 2015, she joined the Brooke Roslindale team as an Associate Teacher Program. Moving forward, Ms. Stacker is excited to cultivate a class where scholars develop the mindset and skills of being an achiever.

Ms. Akinrinlola was born and raised on the south side of Providence, Rhode Island. I attended undergrad at Miami University of Ohio and earned my B.S in social work with a minor in social justice studies. After graduating college, she moved to South Korea to teach English for 1.5 years. Immediately upon returning stateside, she joined Teach For America to pursue a passion for closing the achievement gap and working with low income students similar to herself. She is currently working to earn my masters degree in education at Boston University.

Ms. Armando started working in education five years ago in Connecticut public schools. Before starting her journey in education she earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and history from the University of Connecticut and her master’s in education from the University of Bridgeport. She started as a teacher in New Britain CT followed by a year teaching writing in Brooklyn. Three years ago she returned to Boston to teach US History and ancient civilizations. Ms. Alvahydo joined Brooke as Spanish teacher in 2016. She has over ten years of experience teaching Spanish, Portuguese, and French. Prior to joining Brooke, Ms. Alvahydo was a lecturer at the University of Georgia, the University of South Carolina, Middlebury College, Georgia State University, Bridgewater State University and, most recently, at Simmons College. She is excited to return to the Brooke Mattapan team this year.

Ms. Peña-Cintron is returning to the Brooke Mattapan team as a Spanish teacher. Prior to Brooke, Ms. Peña-Cintron taught sixth-eighth grade Spanish in rural Mississippi, as a 2013 Teach For America Corps member.

Ms. Cleaves is thrilled to return to Brooke Mattapan this year as the school’s K-8 Dance teacher. She began her career at Brooke supporting scholars as a paraprofessional in 2015. Ms. Cleaves is an alumnus of Brooke Roslindale.

Mr. Francois attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst and studied sociology. After graduation, he completed a corps year with City Year at the Irving Middle School in Roslindale where he worked closely with students to help them succeed throughout the school year and beyond. After completing the Associate Teacher Program, Mr. Francois is a lead teacher on the fourth grade team and looks to inspire and be inspired as a part of the Brooke community.

Prior to joining Brooke, Ms. Goldin had experience providing occupational therapy services in a various children’s hospitals and school settings. At Brooke Mattapan, Ms. Goldin provides individual and small group occupational therapy support.

Mrs. Nethercote received her B.A. in political science from Northeastern University and her M.A. and Ed.S. degrees in school psychology from the University of Delaware. Before joining Brooke, she worked as a school psychologist in northern Virginia.

Ms. Nitolo joined the Brooke Mattapan team as the ELL Coordinator in 2015.  She began teaching in 2001 as an AmeriCorps VISTA Volunteer with ReadBoston. She then taught preschool at South End Head Start for two years.  She also supported ESL instruction from Pre-K to 12th grade as a Bilingual Liaison in South Carolina for three years.  Most recently, before coming to Brooke, Ms. Nitolo taught K-8 Spanish for four years at a charter school in California.

Ms. Ellis graduated from Keene State College in 2012 with a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education. The following school year, she completed a Masters of Education with a concentration in Special Education. In 2013 she began working as a Special Education Teacher in a resource room setting in the Keene School District. After moving back to Boston, Ms. Ellis joined the Brooke Mattapan community as the Student Support Coordinator.

Ms. Ladd in graduated from St. Joseph’s University in 2014 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education (Prek-4), and in 2015 with a Master’s Degree in Special Education. During her time at St. Joseph’s University, Ms. Ladd spent time completing field work in the Philadelphia Public School system. Prior to working at Brooke, she worked at KIPP Philadelphia Elementary Academy focusing on the Wilson Reading Program. Ms. Ladd joined the Brooke Mattapan community as an Associate Teacher and went on to teach third grade as a lead teacher.  Ms. Ladd is now very excited to serve in the role of Student Support Coordinator.

Originally trained as an Expressive Arts Therapist, Ms. Moldover discovered her love for education while working as a teacher’s aide in her former elementary school. She received her MA in Special Education from Columbia University Teacher’s College and spent several years teaching in an ICT classroom in New York City. She is excited to return to Brooke Mattapan as a Student Support Coordinator.

Ms. Ricci is thrilled to rejoin the Brooke Mattapan team as the Speech-Language Pathologist. She received her undergraduate degree from Syracuse University in 2015 and proceeded to complete her Master’s at Southern Connecticut State University in 2017. She has worked with children in a multitude of settings including schools, homes, and outpatient clinics. Ms. Ricci looks forward to seeing her scholars improve communication in the classroom and beyond.

Prior to Brooke, Ms. Lopez was a staff nurse at Boston Children’s Hospital the past 4 years and at Beth Israel Urgent Care. Prior to nursing she worked as a Medical Assistant for 8 years, primarily with the pediatric population. She loves working with children and it has been a personal goal to work in community nursing.

Mr. Dodson was born and raised in the city of Boston. He is an active community member in the city, coaching in many different areas. Dodson joined the Brooke Community in 2017 as a volunteer for the boys’ basketball team. He loved the Brooke community so much he joined became a paraprofessional while continuing to coach basketball and flag football. Mr. Dodson is passionate about helping students in our community be successful

Ms. Acevedo joined Brooke Mattapan as the Office Manager. Prior to coming to Brooke Mattapan, Ms. Acevedo provided maternity leave coverage for the Office Manager at Brooke Roslindale. Before entering the education field, Ms. Acevedo worked as the Head Cake Decorator at Whole Foods (the staff enjoys her talents with food!). She completed her culinary degree at Bunker Hill Community College.

Alexandra Lara joined the Brooke Charter School Mattapan Campus in August of 2018. Prior to becoming a Brooke team member, Alexandra was CS Agent for a well known Insurance agency. Before being employed as an agency staff member Alexandra was a product specialist for Vince. clothing line at Neiman Marcus. Alexandra has been a part of the Boston community for the past five years since her relocation from Puerto Rico in 2013.

Mr. Harris was born and raised in Boston, MA. In 2015 he graduated from Matignon High School and took a gap year to further explore his career options and passions. For the past 5 years he has worked closely with children in the community as a camp counselor at Dorchester Bay Summer Camp. In 2017, Mr. Harris joined the Brooke Mattapan team as a Student Culture Aide and began attending Bunker Hill Community College to pursue a degree in Psychology.

Ms. Ortiz joined the Brooke Mattapan team in 2017 as a School Culture Aide. Prior to joining our team, Ms. Ortiz was a bus monitor for BPS Transportation and a Brooke parent! Her son joined our school in 2011 when Brooke Mattapan first opened and she has been part of our community since then.
