Ms. Blair joined the Brooke Mattapan campus in 2011 as a fifth grade math and science teacher after teaching fourth grade for two years in Atlanta, GA. She was a 2009 Teach for America corps member. Ms. Blair previously served as Assistant Principal at Brooke Mattapan and completed an Instructional Fellowship to become Principal of the 8th Grade Academy.

Mr. Magoon graduated from The College of Wooster in 2014 with a degree in English and Education. During his final year in college, Mr. Magoon wrote an “Independent Study Thesis” of fictional short stories inspired by the desegregation of the Boston Public Schools in the 1970’s. He joined Brooke Charter Schools as a member of the 2014-2015 Associate Teacher Program. Mr. Magoon taught eighth grade ELA and social studies teacher and Brooke Mattapan before becoming dean of students.

Mr. Yarbrough joined Brooke having worked for seven years as executive director of the non-profit organization he helped found.  Prior to that, he served and as a program manager with Let’s Get Ready, a community organizer with Stand for Children, and as an instructor with Boston University Upward Bound.

Prior to joining Brooke in 2016, Ms. Coplin worked in both finance and account management at Hill Holliday Advertising for 4.5 years. She received her B.A in Communication and Media Studies from Fisher College, and is also an alumna of City on a Hill Charter School in Boston, MA.

Ms. Mendez has over 25 years of experience working with children and families in urban education and has done especially great work organizing parent councils and supporting bilingual students. Ms. Mendez has worked in a variety of roles in Boston Public Schools and in the Mayor’s office.  She has managed multiple aspects of teaching and learning; planning, organizing, coordinating, communicating, translating, advocating, negotiating and collaborating with team members and constituents.  After fourteen years of experience providing classroom instruction for elementary and secondary level students, Ms. Mendez is bringing her talents to help found Brooke High this year.

Ms. Andrade graduated at Bridgewater State University with a major in English, a concentration in Education, and a minor in U.S Indigenous Studies. Her professional life has focused on working with the inner city youth in Brockton, Bridgewater, and Roxbury. She was a dedicated mentor for Friends and Mentors (F.A.M) for Change, an AmeriCorps Alumi, and a former Teaching Fellow with Generation Teach.

Mr. Joyce received a Bachelor’s degree from Boston College in International Relations, studying Spanish and Arabic. After graduation, he worked as a field organizer in New Hampshire on President Obama’s 2012 reelection campaign and the Youth Director on Ed Markey’s Senate campaign. For the past two years, he taught upper elementary at a charter school on the South Side of Chicago.

Mr. Melcher joined Brooke as an eighth grade English Language Arts and Social Studies teacher in 2016. Prior to Brooke, he worked as a history teacher, science teacher, and dean of students at Achievement First in Brooklyn, New York. He began teaching in 2008 through Teach For America in Phoenix, Arizona.

Prior to Brooke, Ms. Spry worked in the health and fitness industry helping people achieve their personal health goals while working on her MA in English Literature at Simmons College.

Before joining Brooke, Marisa worked for 6 years at Uncommon Schools Roxbury Prep as a 5th grade writing teacher, 7th grade ELA teacher, 7th grade Math teacher and Dean of Curriculum and instruction. Prior to joining Roxbury Prep, she worked at Mother Caroline Academy fro 2 years as a 7th and 8th grade ELA teacher, 7th grade History teacher, and 6th grade math teacher. Marisa attained her Masters in the Arts of Teaching from Emmanuel College and prior to that studied Film at Fairfield University. Marisa’s heart is most full when able she’s able to connect for students the decision author’s make in books can also be seen and studied in film and television. In her free time, Marisa is constantly trying to read as many books as she can be out doors as much as possible.

Ms. Casey-Magleby has been teaching at Brooke since 2006. She currently teaches 8th grade math and science. Prior to Brooke, Ms. Magleby taught Science at Frederick Douglass Charter School, served as a consultant for Phoenix Charter Academy in Lynn and taught GED classes to teen parents in Chelsea, MA.

Ms. Dorvil first joined the Brooke team in 2014-2015 school year as an Associate Teacher and then joined the second grade team as a lead teacher. Prior to joining Brooke, she worked as a volunteer coordinating mentoring and tutoring programs for her community. She also volunteered with United Way in the Mercer County working with low income families.  She has experience working with students through Jumpstart, an AmeriCorps program; she also worked as an instructor for a summer robotics program at the University of Maryland. Ms. Dorvil previously taught kindergarten at Brooke Mattapan.

Christina Rosa Jusino (Massachusetts TFA ’11) was named to the short and exciting El Mundo Boston’s Latino 30 under 30 List for her impact in education and in the professional Latinx community in Boston. Christina has served as an Advanced Educator in the Lawrence Public School system, teaching science at multiple Middle grade levels (6th – 8th) and having also taught 9th grade Biology at Lawrence High School. She co-founded both an Undergraduate and Graduate chapter of her Latina community service sorority (Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc.), was a recipient of the Sontag Prize for Urban Education, is a former Teach Plus Policy Fellow, and was part of the inaugural cohort of the Aspiring Latino Leaders Fellowship through Latinos for Education.

Mr. Lanciault began his teaching career in Dallas, Texas as a 6th grade science teacher with Teach For America. Prior to moving to Boston he spent a year teaching 10th-12th grade ESL in rural Thailand where he received his TESOL certification. Upon completing his commitment in Thailand, he decided to move back to Boston to be closer to family and has spent the past two years teaching 7th grade science at Roxbury Prep Mission Hill.

Mr. Grace graduated from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in 2015. He began working with high school students his freshman summer in college as a tutor for the AVID program. Before coming to Brooke, he was a paraprofessional in the OSS Department at the Baldwin School in Cambridge and an Inclusion Specialist at the Martin Luther King Jr. afterschool program. He has also been involved with youth in the city of Cambridge including coaching summer league basketball games. He is excited to join the 8th grade team!

Prior to joining Brooke in September 2018 as an Associate Teacher, I graduated from Providence College in 2015 with a degree in Social Sciences, focusing in Psychology, Political Science, and History. I immediately went on to complete a year of service as an AmeriCorps Member with City Year Miami, and later for a second year with City Year Providence. During my two years in these two cities I worked mentoring and tutoring in 9th grade Algebra I classes. For the past year I worked part time as a youth mechanics instructor teaching STEM and bike building to high school students at a community bike shop in Providence, as well as being a substitute teacher for Boston Public Schools.

Mr. Albelo graduated from Bentley University in 2006 with a degree in Business Management. After graduation, he worked for State Street Bank as a Senior Account Controller and then honorably served four years in the United States Coast Guard as a Machinery Technician. Upon leaving the service, he attended graduate school at the University of Miami where he received a Master of Education degree in Sport Administration. He returned to Massachusetts as a Classroom Assistant for the Darnell School, a private special needs school in Hudson.

Ms. Moise is the new school psychologist at 8th Grade Academy and Brooke High School this year after working at Brooke Roslindale for several years as an AT and School Psychologist. Prior to returning to Brooke, she worked at both a middle and elementary school in Boston as a school psychologist and special education coordinator. Ms. Moise is passionate about trauma-informed learning and is dedicated to the academic and social emotional success of all students. She is excited to be working at both 8th Grade Academy and Brooke High this year!

Ms. Ricci is thrilled to rejoin the Brooke Mattapan team as the Speech-Language Pathologist. She received her undergraduate degree from Syracuse University in 2015 and proceeded to complete her Master’s at Southern Connecticut State University in 2017. She has worked with children in a multitude of settings including schools, homes, and outpatient clinics. Ms. Ricci looks forward to seeing her scholars improve communication in the classroom and beyond.

Ms. Sferrazza, a Boston-area native, graduated from Hofstra University with a BA in English Creative Writing & Literature in 2008. She then worked in the marketing and advertising industries in NYC for seven years before coming back to Boston to pursue her graduate degree in Teaching English as a Second Language. She graduated from Boston University with her EdM in 2016, then moved to Spain to teach English to native Catalan and Spanish speakers. She spent the 2017-2018 school year teaching ESL at a high school in Boston.

After working with a variety of students, Ms. Rosenberg pursued and received her Master’s Degree in Special Education Moderate Disabilities grades 5-12. Ms. Rosenberg is excited to join the Brooke team as a Student Support Coordinator.

Mr. Hughley attended Northeastern University and studied Media Communications as an undergraduate, and earned a masters degree in Digital Media. Mr. Hughley enjoyed learning media and realized he had an affinity for teaching it as well!
