Our Students
Edward W. Brooke Charter School currently enrolls 366 students, with
182 students in
the elementary school (grades k-2) and 184 students in the middle
school (grades 5-8).
Race/Ethnicity
The overwhelming majority of our students are either African American
or Latino: 76% of our students are black; 21% are Latino; 1% are Asian;
1% are white; and remaining 1% are multi-ethnic or multi-racial.
Economic Background
67% of our students come from low-income backgrounds as defined by
federal guidelines, with 244 students receiving free or reduced-price
lunch through the federal program that
serves as a proxy measure for school poverty.
Gender
55% of our students are female. 45% are male.
Special Needs
16% of our students have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or are
on a 504 plan.
Where Our Students Live
Most of our students live in the adjacent neighborhoods of Dorchester,
Mattapan, and Hyde Park, but we also draw students in significant
numbers from Roslindale, Roxbury, Jamaica Plain, and other Boston
neighborhoods.
