Christa Ayer

Ms. Ayer joined the EWBCS staff last year as art teacher for all of our kindergarten through 8th grade students.  Ms. Ayer has taught art to students in elementary and middle schools in Maine and in Chelsea, Mass.


Alison Barr
Teacher, 5th Grade Math

Ms. Barr is returning for her second year as 5th grade math teacher.  Previously, she served as curriculum specialist at Foxborough Regional Charter School.  Ms. Barr taught 7th and 8th grade math for two years at Pointe Coupee Central High School in New Roads, La.  Ms. Barr is a 2002 Teach for America corps member.

Katharine Borne
Associate Teacher, 5th Grade
B.A. Hamilton College
Ms. Borne is returning for her second year as an associate teacher at EWBCS, and will work primarily with the 5th grade team in 2008-09.  Previously, she worked as an intern with the Heart of America Foundation in Washington D.C.

Jon's Allison Cardoso
Teacher and Reading Specialist, 5th and 6th Grade

Ms. Cardoso is returning for her fifth year as a reading teacher EWBCS.  She joined EWBCS in the winter of 2004 as a part-time teacher. Previously, Ms. Cardoso worked for three years as a 2nd grade teacher at Shakespeare Elementary School in New York City. She is also an alumna of the Teach for America program (2000).

Brian Carey
Music Teacher

Brian Carey joined our staff in 2007 to develop our music program.  Mr. Carey has extensive experience in world music and taught music to the students in the Bay Area in California for several years. 

Jon Clark
Executive Director/Middle School Principal
B.A., Oberlin College
Mr. Clark is a founder and the first principal at EWBCS. He assumed the role of Executive Director, overseeing operations of both the middle and elementary schools during the 2005-2006 school year. Prior to coming to EWBCS, he was a founding teacher at South Boston Harbor Academy where he also served as math department chair for four years. Mr. Clark also taught junior high school math for two years in Belle Chasse, Louisiana and worked as a researcher for a professor of International Economics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Allison Friedmann
Teacher, 6th Grade English Language Arts

M.A.T., National-Louis University
Ms. Friedmann is returning for her fifth year at EWBCS.  She previously taught science, and this year, she is moving to the ELA department.  Previously, she taught for two years at a public high school in Chicago, and for two years at Uphams Corner Charter School in Boston.  Ms. Friedmann is a 2000 Teach for America corps member.

Paul Friedmann
Teacher, 7th Grade Math

Mr. Friedmann joined the EWBCS staff in 2007, having worked for the previous three years as a math teacher at Boston Collegiate Charter School.  Prior to working at Boston Collegiate, Mr. Friedmann worked as a teaching fellow with Citizen Schools and as a researcher with the development office at the University of Chicago.

Jennifer Gallaspy
Teacher, 7th Grade Reading

Ms. Gallaspy returns for her third year at EWBCS as a lead English teacher and E.L.L. coordinator at EWBCS.  Previously, she taught 7th grade ESL and Language Arts for four years in Houston, Texas. Ms. Gallaspy is an alumna of the Teach for America program (2001).

Joelle Gamere
Director of Graduate Services
B.A., Merrimack College
Mrs. Gamere returns for her sixth year at EWBCS.  Last year, she served as the new director of graduate services.  Previously,  she has served as the high school placement director and taught 6th grade writing at the school.  Prior to coming to EWBCS, she worked for two years as a teacher of special education at Boston Renaissance Charter School.

Martine Henderson
Lead Teacher, 8th Grade Social Studies
B.A., M.Ed., Emmanuel College
Ms. Henderson is returning for her fifth year at EWBCS as 8th grade humanites teacher.  Prior to joining EWBCS, she worked for a total of seven years as a history teacher and department head at Boston Renaissance Charter School and as a teacher at the Timilty Middle School in Boston.

Trish Kelleher
Teacher, 5th Grade English Language Arts
B.A., Colgate University
M.A.T., Simmons College
Ms. Kelleher is the founding social studies teacher at EWBCS. Previously, she taught 5th and 6th grade at Pierce Middle School in Brookline for six years. She also taught English as a Second Language for a total of two years in China and Taiwan and is fluent in Mandarin Chinese.

Kimberly Lockwood
Director of High School Placement
B.A., Smith College
Ms. Lockwood is returning for her third year at EWBCS, having joined the staff as an Associate Teacher in 2006.  Previously, Ms. Lockwood was employed as a Teaching Fellow at Hellenic-American Education Foundation in Athens, Greece.  She has also served as a student teacher in a 7th grade English classroom at JFK Middle School in Northhampton, Mass.

Melinda Magleby
Teacher, 8th Grade Math

M.A., University of Chicago
Melinda Magleby returns for her third year at EWBCS, having joined the staff as a science teacher in 2006.  Ms. Magleby previously served as a science teacher at Frederick Douglass Charter School, and most recently served as a consultant for Phoenix Charter Academy in Lynn.

Kelly Manor
Teacher, 6th Grade Math

Ms. Manor comes to EWBCS having taught 7th and 8th grade math for the last three years at Prairieville Middle School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  Prior to teaching in Louisiana, Ms. Manor taught 7th and 8th grade science at Gesu Catholic School in Toledo Ohio.

Jorge Martinez

Mr. Martinez returns for his fifth year at EWBCS. After serving as middle school Dean of Students for several years, this year he will serve as the Dean of Students for all students, K-8.  Prior to joining Brooke, Mr. Martinez worked at Cathedral High School and Boston Renaissance Charter School.

Cristie McGrath
Director of Student Support

Ms. McGrath joined the Brooke staff in 2005 as the Dean of Student Life, and she is currently serving as the Director of Student Support.  Prior to joining the EWBCS staff, she served as the math coordinator and a 6th and 7th grade math teacher at a Boston Public middle school.  She also served as a special education department head and taught special education classes at Toll Middle School in Glendale, CA.
 
Dorice Moise
Associate Teacher, 6th Grade

Dorice Moise joins the Brooke family this year after serving as a Social Studies, Health, and Study Skills teacher at Mother Cabrini High School in New York City.  Ms. Moise is a native of the Boston area and is a graduate of Boston Latin School. 

Belzie Mont-Louis
Teacher, 8th Grade Reading

M.A.T., Pace University
Ms. Mont-Louis is returning for her third year as 8th grade reading teacher at EWBCS.  Previously, Ms. Mont-Louis taught 7th grade English for 2 years at PS/MS 15 in Bronx.  Ms. Mont-Louis is a 2004 Teach for America corps member and is fluent in French and Haitian Creole.

Karimah Moreland

Ms. Moreland returns for her sixth year as the dance teacher at EWBCS. Previously, she taught at the Shaw Elementary School in Dorchester and at the Cambridge Friends School. Originally from the Bronx, Ms. Moreland is also a professional actress in Boston.

Jenna Mullen
Teacher, 5th Grade English Language Arts

Ms. Mullen returns for her third year as a reading teacher at EWBCS.  Prior to joining the EWBCS staff, she taught for two years in a  self-contained 5th grade classroom at Abram Simon Elementary School in Washington, D.C. Ms. Muellen was a 2004 member of the D.C. Teaching Fellows Program.

Rue Diego Ratray
Teacher, 7th Grade Humanities

Mr. Ratray (formerly Kevin Jobes) returns for his third year at EWBCS having joined the staff during in 2006 as a social studies teacher. Previously, he worked for five years as a social studies teacher at Silver Lake Regional Middle School in Kingston, Mass.  His previous experience also includes work as a project manager for AmeriCorps.

Jacquelyn Ross
Teacher, 7th and 8th Grade Science

Ms. Ross returns for her fourth year at EWBCS as a 7th and 8th grade science teacher. Prior to coming to EWBCS, she worked for six years at the Boston Renaissance Charter School, where she was the head of the science department and a lead teacher. She has also worked at the Timilty Middle School in Boston.  

Jeffrey Venter
Teacher, Health and Physical Education

Jeffrey Venter returns for his fifth year at EWBCS as the teacher of health and physical education.  Previously, he worked as a teacher at the Donald McKay School in Boston. He currently serves as the head football coach for the John D. O'Bryant School.

Jess Warning
Teacher, 5th and 6th Grade Writing

Ms. Warning returns for her third year at EWBCS as the 5th and 6th grade writing teacher.  Prior to coming to EWBCS, she served as a communications manager and fundraiser at the International Institute of Boston. She is also an alumna of the Teach for America program (1998).

Kristen Wiens
Teacher, 5th and 6th Grade Science

Ms. Wiens comes to EWBCS having just earned a Masters Degree at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.  Previously, Ms. Wiens taught high school math for two years at North Central High School in Lebeau, Louisiana.  Ms. Wiens is a 2005 Teach for America corps member.

Alexandra Will

Ms. Will returns for her third year at EWBCS, having joined the staff as an associate teacher in 2006.  Her prior teaching experience includes serving as a teacher at Exploration Summer Program in New Haven, CT and volunteer at Vartan Gregorian Elementary School in Providence, R.I.

Lori Adamczyk
Director of Operations
B.A., Bucknell University
Ed.M., Harvard Graduate School of Education
Ms. Adamczyk returns to EWBCS this year as our Director of Operations.  Ms. Adamczyk began her teaching career in North Carolina, where she taught high school math.  She joined the Brooke community in 2004 and taught fifth and then eight grade for three years.  Last year, Ms. Adamczyk received her Masters in Education Policy and Management.

Francis Cash
Director of Finance and Technology
B.A., Fordham University
Mr. Cash is the founding director of operations at EWBCS. Prior to coming to EWBCS, he worked as a financial advisor with American Express. His professional experience also includes a stint as owner/operator of a bookstore in New York City, and two years as an art teacher.

Rene DeStefano
Program Manager
B.A., Boston College
Ms. DeStefano is joining the EWBCS staff this year as Program Manager.  Previously, Ms. DeStefano worked at The Food and Drug Law Institute in Washington, D.C. as a program and conference coordinator.  Additionally, Rene has experience as a swim instructor, camp counselor, and Big Sister mentor in the Boston area.  

Eun Lee Koh
Director of Development

Ms. Koh is returning to EWBCS for her fourth year as development director. Previously, she was a reporter for The Boston Globe and The New York Times. She has also worked with Boston middle school students as a literacy tutor for Tenacity, an after-school tennis and literacy program.

Sandra Marques
Office Manager
Rindge and Latin School
Ms. Marques returns for her fifth year as office manager. Prior to coming to EWBCS, she worked as an operations manager for Fleet Bank.

Charles Peters
Facility Manager
Tewksbury High School
Mr. Peters joined the EWBCS staff in 2005 as the building manager, supporting the building's expansion into a full middle school and the addition of an elementary school. Prior to coming to EWBCS, Mr. Peters worked at Mount Saint Joseph Academy in Brighton as its building manager, and for the Wingate nursing homes.

Kimberly Steadman

Ms. Steadman returns to EWBCS as the elementary school principal. In 2004 she served as a lead teacher, math teacher, and professional development coordinator. Prior to joining EWBCS, she worked as a 5th grade teacher for the Chelsea Public Schools and as a 4th grade teacher in Washington, DC. She is also an alumna of the Teach for America program (1997).
