Middle School Faculty Christa Ayer Art Teacher B.S., Plymouth State College Christa Ayer teaches art to all of our kindergarten through 8th grade students. Ms. Ayer has taught art to students in elementary and middle schools in Alison Barr B.A., Katharine Borne Teacher, 6th Grade English Language Arts Jon's Allison Cardoso Teacher, 5th Grade English Language Arts B.S., M.Ed., Lesley University Ms. Cardoso is returning for her fifth year as an ELA teacher at EWBCS. Prior to working at EWBCS, she worked for three years as a 2nd grade teacher at Shakespeare Elementary School in New York City. Ms. Cardoso was a 2001 Teach For America corps member. Brian Carey Music Teacher B.A., Florida State University M.M., Brian Carey joined our staff in 2007 to launch our music program. Mr. Carey has extensive experience in world music and taught music to the students in the Bay Area in California for several years. Jon Clark Co-Director, Middle School Principal B.A., Oberlin College Mr. Clark is a founder and the first principal at EWBCS. He assumed the role of Executive Director in 2005. Prior to coming to EWBCS, he was a founding teacher at South Boston Harbor Academy where he also served as math department chair for four years. Mr. Clark also taught junior high school math for two years in Belle Chasse, Louisiana and worked as a researcher for a professor of International Economics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Allison Friedmann Teacher, 6th Grade English Language Arts B.A., Williams College M.A.T., National-Louis University Ms. Friedmann is returning for her sixth year at EWBCS. She taught science for 4 years and moved to the ELA department for the 2008-2009 school year. Previously, she taught for two years at a public high school in Chicago, and for two years at Uphams Corner Charter School in Boston. Ms. Friedmann is a 2000 Teach for America corps member. Paul Friedmann Teacher, 7th Grade Math and 6th/7th Grade Science M.A.T., Simmons College Mr. Friedmann joined the EWBCS staff in 2007, having worked for the previous three years as a math teacher at Jennifer Gallaspy Teacher, 5th Grade English Language Arts B.A., University of Maryland Ed.M., Harvard Graduate School of Education Ms. Gallaspy returns for her fourth year as an English Language Arts teacher at EWBCS. Previously, she taught 7th grade ESL and Language Arts for four years in Houston, Texas. Ms. Gallaspy is a 2001 Teach For America corps member. Joelle Gamere Director of High School Placement B.A., Merrimack College Mrs. Gamere returns for her seventh year at EWBCS. Previously, she has served as the director of graduate services and taught 6th grade writing at the school. Prior to coming the EWBCS, Ms. Gamere worked for two years as a teacher of special education at Boston Renaissance Charter School. Shelley Goulder Associate Teacher, 7th and 8th Grade B.A., Bowdoin College Ms. Goulder joins the Brooke family this year having worked for the last two years at MATCH charter school in Boston, including one year as a MATCH Corps tutor and another as a Teacher Assistant and Field Trip Coordinator. Ms. Goulder is an Oregon native and fluent Spanish speaker. Trish Kelleher Teacher, 5th Grade English Language Arts B.A., Colgate University M.A.T., Simmons College Ms. Kelleher is the founding social studies teacher at EWBCS. Previously, she taught 5th and 6th grade at Pierce Middle School in Brookline for six years. She also taught English as a Second Language for a total of two years in China and Taiwan and is fluent in Mandarin Chinese. Melinda Magleby Teacher, 8th Grade Math and 6th and 8th Grade Science B.A., College of the Atlantic M.A., University of Chicago Melinda Magleby returns for her fourth year at EWBCS, having joined the staff as a science teacher in 2006. Ms. Magleby previously served as a science teacher at Frederick Douglass Charter School, and most recently served as a consultant for Phoenix Charter Academy in Lynn. Kelly Manor Teacher, 5th and 6th Grade Math B.A. University of Toledo Ms. Manor is returning for her second year at EWBCS having taught 7th and 8th grade math for the previous three years at Prairieville Middle School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Prior to teaching in Louisiana, Ms. Manor taught 7th and 8th grade science at Gesu Catholic School in Toledo Ohio. Jorge Martinez Dean of Students B.A., University of Massachusetts at Amherst Mr. Martinez returns for his sixth year at EWBCS. After serving as middle school Dean of Students for several years, last year he began serving as the Dean of Students for all students, K-8. Prior to joining Brooke, Mr. Martinez worked at Cathedral High School and Boston Renaissance Charter School. Cristie McGrath Director of Student Support B.A., Arizona State University M.Ed., Pepperdine University Ms. McGrath joined the Brooke staff in 2005 as the Dean of Student Life, and she is currently serving as the Director of Student Support. Prior to joining the EWBCS staff, she served as the math coordinator and a 6th and 7th grade math teacher at a Boston Public middle school. She also served as a special education department head and taught special education classes at Toll Middle School in Glendale, CA. Dorice Moise Associate Teacher, 5th Grade B.A., Boston College Dorice Moise is returning for her second year as a Brooke associate teacher. Previously, she served as a Social Studies, Health, and Study Skills teacher at Mother Cabrini High School in New York City. Ms. Moise is a native of the Boston area and is a graduate of Boston Latin School. Belzie Mont-Louis Teacher, 7th and 8th Grade Reading B.A., Boston College M.A.T., Pace University Ms. Mont-Louis is returning for her fourth year as a reading teacher at EWBCS. Previously, Ms. Mont-Louis taught 7th grade English for 2 years at PS/MS 15 in Bronx. Ms. Mont-Louis is a 2004 Teach for America corps member and is fluent in French and Haitian Creole. Karimah Moreland Teacher, Dance B.A., Purchase College, State University of New York M.A., Emerson College Ms. Moreland returns for her seventh year as the dance teacher at EWBCS. Previously, she taught at the Shaw Elementary School in Dorchester and at the Cambridge Friends School. Originally from the Bronx, Ms. Moreland is also a professional actress in Boston. Asia Price Alumni Support Director B.S., Massachusetts Institure of Technology M.Ed., Harvard Graduate School of Education Asia Price joined the Brooke family in 2007 as a second grade associate teacher, and last year she served as a third grade classroom teacher. This year she is bringing her passion for expanding college access to her role as Alumni Support Director. Before joining Brooke, Ms. Price attended Harvard's education school, where she obtained a degree in policy and management. Ms. Price has worked extensively with children through the Science Club for Girls and through multiple public service experiences. Rue Diego Ratray Teacher, 7th and 8th Grade Humanities B.A., Evergreen State University M.A.T., Simmons College Mr. Ratray returns for his fourth year at EWBCS having joined the staff during in 2006 as a social studies teacher. Previously, he worked for five years as a social studies teacher at Silver Lake Regional Middle School in Kingston, MA. Mr. Ratray's previous experience also includes work as a project manager for AmeriCorps. Sara Schnitzer Teacher, 5th and 6th Grade Math B.A. Dartmouth College Sara Schnitzer comes to the Brooke School having served for the last year as a Program Director for Teach For America in New Orleans. Previously, Ms. Schnitzer taught sixth grade math for two years at Riverdale Middle School in New Orleans. Ms. Schnitzer was a 2006 Teach for America Corps Member. Teacher, Health and Physical Education B.S., Northeastern University Jeffrey Venter returns for his sixth year at EWBCS as the physical education teacher. Previously, he worked as a teacher at the Donald McKay School in Boston. Mr. Venter also runs Student Athletes Rising and is the middle school basketball coach. Kristen Wiens Teacher, 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade Science B.A. Stanford University Ed.M. Harvard University Kristin Wiens joined Brooke in 2008 as the 5th and 6th grade science teacher, and this year, she is moving grade levels to work with our elementary students. Ms. Wiens came to EWBCS having just earned a Masters Degree at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Previously, Ms. Wiens taught high school math for two years at North Central High School in Lebeau, Louisiana. Ms. Wiens is a 2005 Teach for America corps member. Alexandra Will Teacher, 6th Grade English Language Arts A.B., Brown University Ms. Will is returning for her fourth year at EWBCS, her first year as a classroom teacher, having joined the staff as an associate teacher in 2006. Her prior teaching experience includes serving as a teacher at Exploration Summer Program in New Haven, CT and volunteer at Vartan Gregorian Elementary School in Providence, R.I. School Administration Lori Adamczyk Director of Operations B.A., Bucknell University Ed.M., Harvard Graduate School of Education Lori Adamczyk serves EWBCS as our Director of Operations. Ms. Adamczyk began her teaching career in North Carolina, where she taught high school math. She joined the Brooke community in 2004 and taught fifth and then eight grade for three years. Ms. Adamczyk received her Masters in Education Policy and Management and then returned to Brooke to serve in her current role. She is a 2002 Teach For America corps member. Francis Cash Director of Finance and Technology B.A., Fordham University Mr. Cash is the founding director of operations at EWBCS. Prior to coming to EWBCS, he worked as a financial advisor with American Express. His professional experience also includes a stint as owner/operator of a bookstore in New York City, and two years as an art teacher. Rene DeStefano Program Manager B.A., Boston College Ms. DeStefano joined the EWBCS staff last year as Program Manager. Previously, Ms. DeStefano worked at The Food and Drug Law Institute in Washington, D.C. as a program and conference coordinator. Additionally, Rene has experience as a swim instructor, camp counselor, and Big Sister mentor in the Boston area. Sandra Marques Office Manager Rindge and Latin School Ms. Marques returns for her sixth year as office manager. Prior to coming to EWBCS, she worked as an operations manager for Fleet Bank. Charles Peters Facility Manager Tewksbury High School Chuck Peters joined the EWBCS staff in 2005 as the building manager, supporting the building's expansion into a full middle school and the addition of an elementary school. Prior to coming to EWBCS, Mr. Peters worked at Mount Saint Joseph Academy in Brighton as its building manager, and for the Wingate nursing homes. Kimberly Steadman Co-Director, Elementary School Principal B.A., Harvard College J.D., Harvard Law School Ed.M., Harvard Graduate School of Education Ms. Steadman returns to EWBCS for her sixth year. Ms. Steadman joined the brooke staff in 2004, when she served as a lead teacher, math teacher, and professional development coordinator. She then spent the next school year planning the elementary school, which opened in August of 2006. Prior to joining EWBCS, she worked as a 5th grade teacher for the Chelsea Public Schools and as a 4th grade teacher in Washington, DC. Ms. Steadman is a 1997 Teach For America corps member. |
